hi, all
I’m hoping that someone has a good idea for me……
I am rebuilding the upper level of my deck. Replacing the old treated pine. I would like to replace this treated lumber with something that will give me a dry area on the ground level so that I can enjoy the lower level when it rains.
My neihbor just installed a type of T& G aluminum. It seems to work well bu I don’t care for the apperance. It was also very expensive. I thought a product called TimberTech in their tounge and groove might work but they say no.
I’ve seen ads for the under deck gutter type things. I may have to go with something like this.
By the way the upper deck is about 500 sg feet. currently the planks run on a 45 degree. I like the look since my house is cedar siding running on a 45 as well.
ideas?
thanks, hammer

I did something similar on my own house several years ago. My wife wanted a pergula over the driveway and I wanted a carport. I built a pergula and installed copper pans between the joists. The wholw thing was built at a slight angle, so it would drain. I sold the house a year or so ago, but I'll try to find some pictures.
greencu, wife wins...no suprise there, huh?
thanks for the suggestion. Copper seems like a good choice. I don't think much of the platic tub type drains shown in varios websites.
how did the system work for you?
hard to install?
did you do the copper?
expensive,
thx, hammer
You have a few different options:
1. Rebuild the deck to make a proper weatherized porch using EPDM or some other membrane with your decking on top.
2. Replace the decking with something like this (what your neighbor did):

3. Use an under-deck drainage system like this:
http://www.dryspace.cc/
4. Or, with some deck modification (creating a slope in the deck), you can use something like this:

If you want to keep the look of a true deck, your only two real options are option 1 or option 3.
Hope that helps,
Andy
andy, thanks for taking the time to reply. I will certainly check your suggestions out!

Check out http://WWW.Duradek. you can find a dealer in your area. Looks aloat like a vinyl floor. I have had it on the 2cnd floor walkway of a hotel for 6 years where all the golf fanatics walk on it with their spikes. It's holding up great.
Duradek does not sell direct, you need to go through a dealer and it only comes installed. There are similar materials on the market But the warranty & the warranty backup are not the same.
