Here’s my situation: developed spring, almost unlimited water, 2″ water line coming into home (new const) measured at 55 psi, need to drop that down to 1 1/2″ for UV /sediment filter, want to boost pressure to about 70 psi for comfort in showers.
I’m thinking an in-line booster pump or a shallow well pump with a pressure tank. Would one serve me better than the other, or is there a better method?
If I go with a pump, do I put it upstream or downstream to the filter? Thanks a lot!!

I'd figure a way to get more water through your showers.
System works now with no pump, no tanks, no electricity?
You want to ad hundreds of dollars worth of electrical & plumbing just to have more water out of the shower?
Not me.

What kind of volume do you measure through that 2" line at 55psi?
Do the math to see what the reduction in pipe size will do to increase pressure at the expense of volume delivered. Your shower is normally restricted to 2.5gpm so if you have at least 3.25gpm at 55psi from your 2" line it looks like you would get 2.5gpm at 70psi. Some body will check my math, I'm sure.
No way would I try to boost 55 PSI up to 70.
Take the flow restrictors out of your showers instead.
