water softener suggestions, self install
Hi Gang,
Does anyone have a preference for a brand of water softener? I plan to order one from the web, and then install it myself.
Thanks,
John

Buy one from culligan and install yourself.
I bought one from Sears about 7 yrs ago and installed it my self and it has worked perfectly. They will test your water for free before you buy it.
You don't say where you are.
In Iowa, on a 5-600ft well the water is so hard & high in iron & sulpur that we use $50 per month for salt thru a culligan unit. Some of the other barnds are much higher front end cost but much more efficient to operate month to month.
If you have a problem, don't just talk do something to set it right.

Hi,
I am in Western CT with well water. The water is PH 6.8, and the hardness is 14 grains. Iron is .1 ppm. I was looking for a unit that regenerates based on usage. I do find lots of them on the web for direct purchase, but I am unfamilar with the brands. Thanks,John
Put in a Waterboss about 11 years ago. Easy install. Once it overflowed and the support was great, by phone. Helped diagnose and sent parts promptly and cheap.
It works on demand. You set the hardness, then the unit meters the water and recharges as needed. I think it recharges every 4 days whether it needs to or not. Not sure why.
