Greetings Breaktime Forum!
I’m having trouble with my 10-12 year old Sears Kenmore softener.
Problems;
1. The salt storage tank is full of water
2. We are getting a severe film build up in our dishwasher and our dishes/glasses
What I’ve done so far;
1. Checked the drain hose for obstructions – none
2. Cleaned inspected the nozzle & venturi – nothing visibly wrong
3. Cycled the system through a manual recharge-it cycles as normal indicating that the motor and the cam work properly.
4. Visited the Kenmorewater Troubleshooting on-line animation and went through the steps. It finally said to call a service person.
There are no salt bridges in the tank and the bypass valve is in the correct position.
Please tell me what I should do next. Does this indicate that my media needs replacement in the brine tank?
Thanks in advance for your comments/suggestions
Jim

First thing I'd do is test the water before and after the softener.
Get a new one. That's about the normal life for a Kenmore in my experience. Getting it fixed will cost more than a new one.
OK Thanks for the input.
I came to that conclusion this weekend and tore it out. Thinking of going with one from the internet sites with a FLECK 2500SE controller. 48K size appears to suit my needs. I've seen them on Ohio Pure Water, Quality Water, and Abundant Water.
Anyone have any good/bad experiences with these companies?
I had very a good experience with abundant flow water systems. Bought an iron filter from them late last summer and their support and service were excellent.
You got a plug of crud in your lines. Carefully tear part the head assembly and clean out the junk.
And get a filter in line ahead of it.
