I don't know how I would deal with a customer who spills water on a wood platform, let's it sit long enough to f=grow mildew to stain the wood, and then is resistant to what might be the only way to get rid of the stain....
I think I'd start with lots of disclaimers, then map out a plan to first, clean it with a deck wash product such as Armoral has. It is a percolate bleaching product. If that fails, I would be going to a deep sanding and refinish next. If that fails, the replacement is the only option left. I'd want paid for taking the time on the first two to prove it to them.

Thank you I believe you are right. especially about getting paid. Deck is plywood so stain is deep. It is a rental home so Maybe thts why not to change platform. Anderson says 300.00 for new deck
If money is the issue, paint is the answer.Or a solid colour darker stain over.If renters caused this, should come out of their deposit. But comparing refinish to replacement, it is pretty close that the replacement could be cheaper. You could get a veneer piece for 40-50 bucks and cover and restain. You could use a birch ply and cut your own replacement and finish to match.Lots of options other than $300 to andersen

How about veneer or laminate?
After scrubbing with detergent and water to get up as much as possible, I'd probably try oxalic acid first. It will likely raise the grain a bit.
The Oxalic acid will be a first try for me. Being that it is a stained piece cutting a veneer or new top is tough since it has to get under molding and crank handle for casement windows. So existing molding won't fit and will have to be cut. Am I wrong here? Andereson doesn't seem to lend itself easily to this easily. Has anyone ever removed a platform? Seems they have to be cut out Again Thank you
I was thinkin' real veneer - only about 1/16" tops.
shrug, maybe not. hard to see.
Hmmm Interesting idea! Glue down?
Yeah, it's harder to stain if you put the glue up.
Where's REZ?
How does my daughter say it Oh LOL That was good Thanks
worse comes to worse how about a pc of formica, installed over what you have. it's a rental who knows wht the next guy will do.
