A question of waterproofing someone else hack job has come to be a potential problem and a resolve is needed.
I’m replacing some sill trim, corners, so fits etc. for a neighbor and after removing all the rotted material on an old carport enclosure/ family room, noticed a potential problem in the future with a concrete slab being poured as a parking area to the side of the house. When the carport was enclosed, of course it was a permit less on-inspected type job that was built without any additions to the foundation (rise), and was just a single 2x sill plate type wall, directly on the old carport slab (see picture). A parking area as I said is being poured by another guy and will be poured directly against the existing on foundation type wall (flush with existing concrete). Here’s the question… How if at all can the seam between the two slabs of concrete be fixed as to not become a funnel for water leading directly into the house? The concrete guy says he has some kind of wonder fix with a waterproof type paper put on the wall dropping below the seam and will pour up to the paper, leaving me to fix the siding and trim after with no problem. I don’t do concrete enough to be truly knowlegeable and am wondering if this guy is on the up and up, or should I make the owner sign a liability waiver?
