*doug, think of your site as a 4 color brochure changeable on a moment's notice and deliverable in seconds to any prospective customer who calls.take a look at as many websites as you have time to visit. determine what you like and don't like about them.a good site to visitmy sitethen make your site fast to load and as informative as possible. pictures are worth a thousand words.
*Ron....Now that's Fine Woodworking for Fine Homes...And a Fine Site to to display....Did you have it done for you I assume?Near a Quality site networked to the stream,aj
*ron.. i use netscape.. and for both those links i get ((404 not found)))
*Mike,It might have been my host - they sometimes get an overload - especially at 9am and 4pm when the stock market is open.tryhttp://www.merittwoodwork.com and http://www.rwoodcarver.com
*Doug,There is varied information available from Webmonkey. While I don't think Webmonkey is exactly what you're looking for, they do have information that you could use to build your knowledge base on the subject, which may help you better define and meet your e-business objectives. If you're looking to build the site yourself, there's a wealth of info out there. I can send you other links should you desire.A little eye candy is nice, too much is a distraction, results in long downloads and sends those without high-speed connections elsewhere.Best of luck.
*Doug, could you tell me something about your business and what you would like people to know about it.If you can tell me, you probably would want that info on the site.blue
*There have been several good books written on the subject... A couple of books that I have glanced through are The non-Designer's Web Book by Robin Williams and John Tollett ( http://www.ratz.com ), and Sizzling Web Site Design by Laura Lemay. Both of these feature some spiffy looking sites (probably far beyond what you would want) along with many tips such as don't have too many slow loading graphics, etc. A couple of years ago, I ran accross a number of sites that had articles on Web site design. You might do a search of the Web to see if any still exist. You may want to check out the help file on how to build your own web site at http://www.zdnet.com/zdhelp/stories/main/0,5594,2212170,00.htmlIf you are going to do it yourself and do not yet have a web authoring package, you may want to go to http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/ or http://www.pcworld.com/ and do a search on "web authoring". If you are thinking of creating your own site, there are a number of "low end" web authoring software packages that have templates that can provide you with various "looks" with minimal coding. I recently saw a comparison of low end web packages, but can't seem to locate it. Among such packages are: Go Daddy's Website Complete Net Objects Fusion Trellix Web Hot Metal Pro There are, of course, many more advanced web authoring packages that allow more creativity but at higher cost and a longer learning curve. As to what to say, that is something that you need to come up with that reflects who you are and what you want to say... You might be able to get an idea of what works and what doesn't by doing a web site using as key words the ideas you want to present. Lots of sites out there to look at...
