Was at the doc’s today and there was a guy in the waiting room with a cane. But not any old cane but one made from an antique handsaw. He’d ground the teeth off, then fastened to each side a piece of wood maybe 3/4 x 1-1/2, running pegs through the saw to fasten the sides together. The wood extended past the end of the saw and ended with a crutch tip. Saw handle became the cane handle.
Appeared to be a very effective cane — he was having a bit of trouble getting around and made good use of it.

Unfortunately for me, I will begin this building season walking with a cane. I have been thinking about making said cane to resemble a hammer, made out of some sort of really hardwood. I figure if the wood I choose is hard enough it might very well be functional.
