Any welldrillers here or know of any welldrilling sites?.
I’ve got a 24 ft tower and 1000ft/#,60 RPM powerhead on the back of a JD440, and thought I’d try to build the rest of a mud drilling setup to go into 30 ft of cemented hardpan for 6 inch concrete pilings. Specific questions are:
1. Can I get away with a spade bit with only hard surfaced bit edge for one hole between resurfacing, or do I need carbide edges?
2. Can I get anywhere with only 1000# of downpressure, it that enough to effectively use the torque, or do I neeed to add a hydraulic pulldown?
3. I also need to build a 5-10 HP mud pump (could buy surplus for $300 but DIY more fun first time), any suggestions as to whether a vane or double acting piston is easier to build (have a full machine shop).
I know, I could work my regular this weekend and hire it done with the cash, but I’ve never drilled a well or hole for 50 ft poured piling and would like to try.
