What and How to mount Hardiboard Trim?

I’m about to start trim work on the corners, seams, and around the dormers of the shed that’s sided with Sierra Hardiboard vertical siding sheets.
Is there anything else I can use other than the $10 1x4trim, or ripping the $15 1×5 Cement Hardiboard trim?
Would you use 3″ galv/epoxy screws or 3″ ring-shank galv. nails for the trim?
Thanks,
Bill

I like the Azek. They also have pre made corners ( in 5/4 for sure, not sure about 3/4) and a 1x6x8' is about 26 bucks..but I'd rather cut that all day than Hardie trim.
I use 2.5" SS trim screws and SS finish nails...that's all.

You don't want to rip a lot of hardi trim if you can avoid it. Better to plan your job so the material can be used in the widths it comes in. Actually I don't like the stuff anyway... too fragile and only comes in 10' lengths (I think) so more waste and more seams in the finished job.
Go with the AZEK. It works just like wood and paints well. Better than HARDI...
I tried the hardi trim. Thought it was a good idea I had two windows (in two different bathrooms) in the tub enclousure. I cut my boards to fit and tried to assemble with my trim nailer.........not so much. The nail didnt even come close to working.
Plan B: Get out the screws, oh wait you cant screw near the edge of hardi, it blows out.
I ended up having to predrill and countersink every hole then very carefully install the screws.
It wasnt too bad for my small project but I might think twice before tackling a big project with this stuff.
