I usually save that line for the 411 operater on the phone…but this is some good news.
I just got the “Firehose” pants from DuluthTrading Co. At first, I thought I done wrong..they don’t compare to the double knee Carhartts at all..I was disapointed big time. Wore them around the house one evening..still not real happy.
Then when I really got active, I realized..dammm! These are comfortable..mid weight fabric, great DEEP friggin pockets, and a crotch gusset that won’t strangle the boys when yer in awkward confinement.
I wear a 32×36 and Carhartts are a scarce thing just going in and looking for “off the shelf” buys..so I called Duluth before I ordered , they said nope, no 36 inseams to be had..so she talked me into buying 34’s ( after I asked her what she was wearing (G)..and lo and behold they just about don’t look too silly on me.
I recommend them as an alternative to Carhartts..they are pricy at 49.99 , but they almost look “dressy” enough to wear to church or the occaisional Bris.
If they can survive roofing all winter, I consider it $ well spent..oh yeah, they got some new long johns that rock as well.

What am I wearing?
Well, I like to start with a silk thong.......
.
O.K. seriously - I also bought a pair of those "Firehose" pants when they were on clearance. To me, they didn't seem comfortable at all - Stiff as a board, and hot as heck. But I'd have to admit - I've only worn them in hot weather so far.
I figure I'll save 'em for REALLY tough jobs when I don't want to mess up a good pair of bib overalls. And only during cool weather.
" Oshkosh , b' gosh" is you..
For bibs, go with "pointer" brands..they are sturdy as an oak tree.
I base my outer wear on availabilty, all these short, fat bastids glom up the market with thier knickers...I need lots of clothe to the reach the ground..
When Carhartts hit 90.00 for insulate bibs, I started looking around. But if I really want some drawers that fit me right, I gotta gain 40 lbs...and then toss all my skinny pants. I hate it. The entire US is fat folks! "low fat this" and "low fat that", geezeus, is no one else that wants a lot of the good stuff? And make frikkin clothes for us?
Profiling, I tell ya..profiling..we have become a country of obesity and profileing towards some DR.'s dream of getting rich, on the heart valve replacement, and erectile dysfunction of the obese and clueless of what being healthy really is.
I know you are a large man Ron, and I ain't shooting arrows at you, but ...what is wrong with the folks that consume all the stuff that is available, and do not have anything else to give back?
Whoops..I ranted on myself, lemme go take a shower. Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Well, I ain't THAT large. And Clara said I had lost weight. I can almost fit into my silk thongs from high school..........(-:

One thing I can say about Clara,,,,,she is very accomodating to one's ego..she could say yer "pleasantly Plump"..and you'd recieve it as a gift of observance on her part to your fattitude..LOL
If you're happy with the loss of weight, and it causes ( or is not from) any other problems, be well with it. A sudden loss might indicate an underlying problem.
Belive it or not, I too am getting a gut..I hate it. I can almost see myself as a pencil thin guy with the eraser in the middle..one of them geek applied erasers...where'd I put my pocket protecter and coke bottle glasses and adhesive tape?

sphere,
I have never been disappointed by anything I bought from Duluth
Heck---I even use a briefcase I bought from 'em
the extra long T shirts to hide the "plumbers butt"-----totally rock---long AND short Sleeve
Wearing a sweatshirt from them that is ABSOLUTELY the best Sweatshirt I have ever Bought-----have 3 now-----buying more
I have about 10 pairs of coolmax socks from them----I wear 'em year round----big fluffy ones---about 3 years old now and still going strong.
because I am a fat azz---i have slowly been converting over from Levi's to Carhart duck carpenters pants----gotta admidt I don't understand hammer loops on the LEFT side
Been Eye balling the firehose pants for 2 years now------------
Stephen
So exactly what sweatshirt from Duluth is so great?- I am in the market.Been wearing my Filson Tincloth jacket in the cool October rain
And a pair of old faded carhartts that the ole lady dyed a nice moss green for me.
-SRJ
MisterSteve,
Fabric a little heavier than most,
sleeves stay put when working over your head
bottom does not ride half way up your back when working bent over.
un-believably comfortable----as they sbarely street legal. Very durable.( colors kind of blah---and they fade funny---but who cares about that?)
BTW---I do remember something I bought from duluth that I was less than satisfied---minor complaint actually.
The "no polo logo" polo shirts?---collars would never lay flat on their own----and I am simply NOT going to iron( or rather---cause to be ironed)----------- a freakin work shirt.
Stephen
There is onme iteem they have disappointed me on. I got their latest work vest - the one that replaces the Skillers. I ordered the lage which is what I always wera. The thing came down to my knees. I had to bend over to reach the nail bags on them.So I called and did a return to get a medium. it was likewise way too big to be of any use. I returnedd it and told them to call me when they learn how to size them right. They don't have a small size in that.

My losing weight has been a fairly long term struggle. It started out early in the year when I started getting into shapre for the backpacking trip. Now I'm trying again to get in shape for the Ms. Katrina fest trip. I haven't lost MUCH weight - Got a long way to go. .Seems odd to hear you talking about putting up hay this late in the year. We were done back in Sepember.
Women are like department Stores. Their clothes should always be half off.
We will still be cutting hay in February (see TX in my user name).
Average February temp 61.
"I haven't lost MUCH weight - Got a long way to go."
Well BH, I have no idea what your goal weight may be, but I'm here to tell you and ANYBODY else, that when I saw ya approx. a week ago - you had lost AT LEAST 20# from the first time we'd met earlier this summer.
And you're looking good buddy; and I perceived you were feeling better too.
So now - the only thing that sucks about being on a weight loss gig is...do you buy new clothes or hold off til yer at the next size down? <g> DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
"the only thing that sucks about being on a weight loss gig is...do you buy new clothes or hold off til yer at the next size down?"
I'm losing it slowly enough and haven't lost all that much. So I'm just buying a size smaller jeans as I need to replace them.
You are my heart's desire.
But my kidneys and spleen have also expressed an interest.
I hear ya.
BTW, loved your tag line - ROAR!!!!!!DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
You know. Right now is a good time to insert the guy in the thong picture. But seeing as we are dealing with higher standards now. I can't.
The new standards ruin a good time don't they? And it's all because of a few political wanna bees.
"Right now is a good time to insert the guy in the thong picture."
There's NEVER a good time to insert a "guy in a thong" picture.

Ive been thinking about buying a pair of those, I wear duluth, and carharrtt almost exclusivley. I may just have to get a pair f those based on your recomendation.
Do NOT be fooled by the claim of a hammer loop on the RIGHT..unless yer hammer is real skinny..
I wish and hope, someone can pull that one off well.
Reminds me of the commercial yrs ago..I went into the local gas and go beer stop, the foxy check out girl said " nice pants"! That was worth the shipping cost alone...back to the cold shower now. Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
"Its MINE, I'll wash it as fast as I want"
that hammer loop on the left of pants is another conspiracy
its just a way to get us to buy more nail bags so we can keep our hammers where we can reach 'em
especially now that my arms have shrunk so's I can't reach around my body to grab stuff on the left
The hammer loop should be on the left.
Why?
Are you a lefty?
Iuse my hammer with my right hand. I wear my hammer loop on my tool belt on the right side, so I can easily reach it.
Granted, I don't use the hammer loop on my pants much, but it never made sense to me to have it on the left side.
Yes I am lefty.
I wear Dickies 874. They are $16 at Wal-Mart. I get about 6-8months out of a pair. I find they are the most comfortable pants to wear. They are 50%cotton, 50% polyester, so they don't stay wet for long.
I have a couple pairs of Carhartts, but I never wear them anymore. They just aren't as comfortable.
When it gets real cold(under 20 degrees) I put on my insulated carhartt bibs.
I have found the Dickies brand to be a pretty good. Their 'Utility Jeans' are good. Only warning , same as any brand I guess, is to check the stitching. I got one pair where the cloth didn't meet the seam for about 6" on an inside leg. Seems to be a hit or miss thing. Mostly hit and all the seams that were put together look well stitched, triple stitched.I buy them in both brown and denim blue, unwashed. I find 'washed' jeans don't last or wear, possibly fit ultimately, as well. I like the utilities extra pockets. Hammer loop on the left might be an issue for carpenters but as an electrician the outside seam tool pocket on the right is handy. Much better place for a pen than the shirt pocket where it falls out and gets in the way. I can stuff in a pair of Kleins, a MiniMag, a six-way driver, a couple of wire nuts and I'm ready to go.Back to jeans. I can always, even not on the job, find stuff to make use of the pockets. A tiny LED flashlight, mini-Bic, folded bandana and two tiny wirenuts put together to hold a couple of allergy pills. Be impaired. A Leatherman rides on the belt.On the shirt side Dickies has a heavy-duty pocket tee in very pale grey that is my favorite. Light enough to reflect much of the Florida heat but just grey enough not to demand bleaching or show stains too obviously.

Hope you like 'em. I won't give up my Carhartts anytime soon - the flannel lined duck carpenter pants get worn all winter, and a set of bib insulated overalls and an LL Bean coat for the cold stuff (like -20 February cold).
Rest of the year is either Carhartt jeans or duck pants, or Levi 560 (can't get 'em in the stores so I get 'em off eBay).
The Duluth stuff I do have is fine, though.
I love Duluth products. I have these boots and love them http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/mens/mens_footwear/97785.aspx and this vest, in navy is the nicest vest I've ever worn http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/mens/mens_outerwear/86074.aspx
got some underwear coming this next week. Hope those work well :-)
Oh yeah, I have shorts with the crotch gusset, I agree with you.
did the same thing last year. i bought one pair . wore the heck out of em and they stay pretty darn clean. theyre stain resistant you know. even on some of the colder days didnt need long underwear . im gonna buy 2 more pair this winter.
i also bought a couple of their fom shirts and love them too. duluths clothes are kind of expensive but you truly do get what you for there.

I love their FOM shirts. I have wide shoulders and long arms relative to my body size, so all my other long sleeve shirts bind and are always torn out at the elbows quickly. These look good and stay tucked in and feel comfortable.

On ebay, I found some Bucket Boss pants and accessories that appear to be virtually the same products as the Skillers brand from Duluth. In fact it's been impossible to find any info on the web about the BB clothing products, and I think they are one in the same in some ways. Some great features built in as well as added capabilities when used with the asst pouches and stuff that hitch on to the straps on each side. They also have the Skillers like vest from Bucket boss that takes the same acc and has almost 20 pockets itself. The pants were $14 or so each, and the Vest was $25 or so and the acc about $5-6 each.Much better than the $55 or so Duluth wants for the Skillers. Oh yea, the main feature is the built in Knee pads. Would still use external ones for an all day tile job, but for all day use it's nice to have the built in ones every time you kneel down for whatever.Would like to get some of the shorts for next year. Picked up 4 pair + the vest and accessories and extra pads for about $140 or so for all.I get t shirts long and short sleeve from Sam'sClub for $4.5 and $7 each.JT
Would you post a link to where you found those Bucket Boss pants for $14"?
I bought some last year and thought I was getting a deal at $25.
Getting to be long pants time of year again.
I searched and found a seller who had a bunch of that stuff. Seems to me it was a $14.99 buy it now deal, and I contacted here after I had won the auction and bulked up to save on shipping. Great stuff. No link, but the seller's id was (is?) becknerspecmds. She was very helpful. One note if you do find some, they run a bit small I think. In all other pants/jeans, I wear a 34 waist, and the BB 34's were quite tight - had to go instead with a 36. They are a bit loose, probably a 35 would have been perfect, but for bulking up in the cold, it'll come in handy.JT
Thanks for the post. I missed the ebay in your original post. Thought it just said you found them on the web. Was thinking an ongoing deal.
Thanks again,

Here's a question for the rest of the cold climate (sub 20 degrees) guys. What lined pants have you gotten the most wear out of. My collection of Brown Duck Dickie pants are starting to wear out (knees going, a couple of holes from snags, and the usual collection of paint, caulk, adhesive etc) and I'm beginning to look. Just curious whats out there.
Jeremy
Jeremy, I've worked the last five winters out there with ordinary, medium weight cotton sweatpants- no longjohns.
The bagginess of the sportsweatpants capture and retain the heat. The difference between wearing a pair of levis without longjohns and wearing sweats without longjohns is giagantic! There's really no comparison. The sweats win out every time.
The problem days are the windy ones. The sweats don't provide that all important hardshell. The levis, and other work pants are a superior wind break. To combat wind, I keep a pair of nylon sweatpants.
One other problem is the embers from our fire bucket. They leave holes all over my sweats so I normally only get one season out of them.
But! I don't really like the look. I'm now getting a bit self conscious about my image and I'm considering switching to a more "carpenter/builder" like look. So, this season, I might try something different. We'll see. I know if I get cold, I'll be back in my cozy sweats in a heartbeat.

Now that is something I never would have expected.
Thanks Blue, I'll have to give that a try on some of the calm days. And hopefully we don't get anymore jobs over at South Haven on the lake is year. Brrrrrr.Jeremy
Flannel lined Carharts are excellent for cold weather, insulated bibs when its really cold.
Mixed experience with Duluth. Their waterproof pigskin cold weather gloves are useless.
BTW, you can get seriously reduced Carharts at Sierra Trading Post.com
Carhartt shorts, about 330 days of the year.

Now they're "shorts" and they're stylish. When I was in high school they were "floods" and dorky. You know me. I've always been a slave to fashion.<g>
Carhart logger jeans, double layered fronts, nice pockets , expensive.... probably,
but , none the less, a favorite for me when it gets cool. Smart wool socks, nice!!!!
Duofold LJ's and a really well broken in ball cap ( with my logo of course! ).
No thong, the only thing I floss is my teeth. Sweatshirts, I love heavy weight
sweatshirts, you know the ones that fade and have memories?
Just my two cents.

I am currently wearing Dickies work pants (on sale a Sears).
( over my leather teddy and studded garters with the stockings with the line up the back)
I have about 8 pair of JD American workwear HD work pants w/ the knee padds built in.
they were my faves till the waistline shrunk so much I can't button them and JDA has went out of business.

I just discovered these

and they are mmmmm beefy...
more comfy than my carhartts, and could be tougher....
way more expensive though. paid 50 for them. My favorite pants of all time are patagonia standup pants, but they have been discontinued, and my remaining pairs are slowly dying.
i wear my older duty pants. I prefer 411 because of number of pockets. They are reasonable in price and fire department gives me an allowance but they are light weight and last for years even after i convert them from FD to remodeling. I am not pushing that brand but i would go to your LE/FD uniform store to get pants. 8 pockets are hard to beat!
