What do you guys eat on the job? I had left over ribs and some seasoned noodles. And a Dr. Pepper of course.

Three liverwurst sandwhiches with barbeque sauce, an juicy apriocot, and coffee.
There - that oughta spice up the conversation... but 'scuse me, I gotta go...

If I didn't have a nuclear metabolism, I would. Been trying to eat myself into a body like Arnie Schwartzenegghead since I was a kid, but nuthin' works. Drives my doc nuts; he can't figure out why my cholesterol is too low when I eat 3 eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, toast with crétons, etc., etc,. for breakfast every morning.

If you're headed to Rockland, try Texas Outlaw Barbeque next to the Ford dealer. Not half bad.
Today sucked, lunchtime was the emergency supply in the glovebox. A can of viennas, some saltines, and a slim jim. Water from the city supply.
Took off early to cook supper for the DW to surprise her. MMMMMmmmm is it gonna be good tonight! :D
Yuck to your lunch!
I went in to Rockland yesterday for banking and a haircut. Never have noticed that barbeque though. Is that down south side of town? I don't hang out with Fords very often, teehee;).
Excellence is its own reward!
On the southside on RT1 not far from the Thomaston line, it's just a little stand with a smoker on the side. Gonna get some when I get back to Maine next week. Don't let it's closeness to Ford put you off ;o), it's still pretty good.

In his first interview since the stroke, Ram Dass, 66, spoke with great difficulty about how his brush with death has changed his ideas about aging, and how the recent loss of two old friends, Timothy Leary and Allen Ginsberg, has convinced him that now, more than ever, is the time to ``Be Here Now.''

Heh...how would she know? She was still asleep! Bahahahahahaha!
eat?
the usual. Breakfast at mcdonalds, a # 3, with a small oj, and cafe grande
Lunch? numero dos at the same mcdonalds,( I'll be glad when this job is over and get to another part of the state)
After work munchies? large coffee and two for a dollar strawberry pies at the same mcdonalds.
dinner? pizza hut.
That's like the Atkins diet, but worse.
It was 93° (heat index 96°) here in Central Texas at lunchtime--not ideal weather for a hearty lunch. Though there are those who do eat. I'm just not one of them--either feel too full or too tired, neither of which is very productive.
Specifically to the thread, I had a granola bar & powerade.
Ribs sound good for supper, though. Great Idea!
I find that a Canadian Rice Pudding is just the thing for the heat - a bowl of cold rice topped with maple syrup and one of: milk, cream, or vanilla ice cream.
(off the job, substitute dark Jamaican rum for the syrup)
Now my actual lunch sounds dull: an english muffin topped with orange shread marmalade followed by a handful of peanuts..

Could you do me a favor some day at lunch time?
Go down to Dudley's Draw at North Gate and have a Turkey Draw w/ cheese for me. Or, next door at the Dixie Chicken and get an order of Chicken Fajita Tacos. If you have time shoot a game of pool for me too.
Your help is much apreciated.

Dudley's kitchen has slipped a bit--just not as much fun as it was around 1980.
The chicken fakita tacos are good, but I tend to be too impatient to wait, and just get Dixie Tacos, instead.
In full disclosure, I've been sending the PM for my curtain wall sub around to other good places in town (he's from New Braunfels). He's been to Martin's BBQ for chopped beef sandwiches. And over to the Chicken Oil Co. for a deathburger.
Richard B (Dudley's) opened a place up just west of the Chicken, called Fitzwillie's; they have a pretty good kitchen (I need to go check them out again). Don G. (Dixie Chicken) opened a pretty goo little restaurant called Sachel's, that serves a little bit of everything.
Shot some pool Friday before last--failed to read the lie of the greens, and failed to win. Such is life. Threw down some bones for forty-two, too.
When were you last in my "living room"?
I think it was '98 when I was last there. The place (town and campus) has changed. Even more now I bet.
We have Double Dave's in Dallas now so I can my pepperoni roll fix easy enough. Freebird's just opened up a place up here (same place as the first Dallas Double Daves). went for lunch a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely packed.
Sad to see 3C Bar-B-Q was gone last time I was down there. Awesome chicken fried steak, pecan pie and short skirts, man the memories.

Ah, now there was a place to get some chow.
Another place I miss is Youngbloods ("now" Carney's Pub). While Guiness on tap makes up for a little bit, I still miss the Friday night seafood platter.
Only been a half decade--no new street names in that time <grin>. Academy is gone out next to the driving range on the bypass. Bed, Bath, & Beyond will be rising up in its place. University heading south from the Bypass looks completely different. There's an Exxon, Cheddars, Rockfish Cafe (good seafood), Texas Roadhouse (decent steaks), and the newest Wings & More. The HD will be opening up behind all of that, early next year.
The more things change, the more they change (excepting those that don't <grin>).
Went home for lunch ;-)
chips and dip while working in my shop, the lunch of champions
breakfast?, nicotine, caffeine and sugar, not necessarily in that order
Gaaaaggghhh! No wonder your politics is so screwy: You are what you eat.
Here's a lunch bucket (90-liter size; you need an apprentice to help you carry it out of the truck):
2 liters of homemade lemonade to keep you hydrated up there on the scaffolding
A liter of coffee because the union rules specify a coffee break am and pm
Brioche à la canelle to go with the coffee (that's a cinamon sticky bun in 'murican)
Sandwiches on baguettes, with homemade pâté de campagne, a really smelly raw-milk camembert, and black olives
Homemade yoghurt with homemade wild raspberry jam for dessert
A couple of Granny Smith apples and a half-dozen clementines, just in case.
Bon Appetit!

Everything is homemade? Even the bucket?
Nah, the cooler is a Coleman, a commemorative metal model they brought out for their Enienth anniversary or whatever. And I didn't make the cheese--I don't have a cow to get the raw milk.
Cooking is one of the great pleasures; it's akin to building something beautiful in that you get a tangible product at the end of your labours. I do a lot of home canning each fall, because in the winter I don't have much time to cook--I get up about 5am and leave the house well before 7am, and don't get back til after 6pm, at which point I usually find that (a) the snowplow has shoved four feet of hard, frozen snow into the driveway; (b) the fire in the wood stove has either gone out or almost; and (c) there's no leftovers from last night, so what's for dinner? Open the cupboard, yank out a jar of homemade Ragout de Pattes, a jar of home canned beets, and slap 'em on the stove. All you need then is to boil some potatoes and supper is served. In the freezer are a couple of dozen apple pies; slap one in the oven and while it cooks, the oven helps warm up the house. I love winter--but you've gotta understand how it works....
