I was thinking about putting a wood floor down. I like the idea of having a Floating floor because i can install it myself. The one i was looking at has 1/8″ hardwood layer. I think it was a Harris-targat?? It was “select” grade, which i think is #1 grade. It looked nice installed in the pictures i saw.
It also has alot of coats of clearcoat compaired to on-site finished floor.
Is this kind of floor any good?? thanks The floor i would get is Clear finish maple.
thanks

come on guys, some of u have to have experience with this!!!
*jon, Advantages: Very stable, little seasonal movement. Easy/fast to install. Low $, yes you can do it yourself. Not as thick as solid wood - easier transition to other flooring heights. Clean installation, no sanding/finishing.Disadvantages: Real hardwood floors will make your home more valuable. Can only be refinished once. The plank type of prefinished is obviously not a real solid wood floor, you can see the joints. Prefinished wood flooring with individual boards usually has a beveled edge, a dirt catcher. Here is a kitchen floor I did with prefinished planks. Sorry, you can't see the floor real well in the picture. I'm happy with the floor.welcome to breaktime
*There have been many discussions of engineered floors in the archives. Perhaps there are specific questions that those don't answer?
*jon:I have experience with the engineered stuff, but get kinda bored when I have one of those jobs coming up. Harris-Tarkett is in the top drawer when it comes to any competitors of similiar floating products.Considering it's construction, similiar to that of Kahrs. They have no bevelled edges and can be completely refinished several times over, if one can find the right finisher with the right equipment down the road.
