What gun for hardie and roofs

| Posted in Tools for Home Building on May 5, 2005 09:11am

I’m planning on residing with hardie plank and putting a new roof on my house this summer and want to use a nail gun. I’d like to buy just one gun for doing both jobs. Can anyone suggest a nailer that can handle doing both jobs??

We use both makita & bostitch roofing guns with good luck. Two important things to look for when buying a roofer that'll also be used to hang hardi: a good depth of drive adjustment & enough driving power.

We've tried using a hitachi roofing gun to nail hardi in the past, but gave up because it didn't have enough power to set the nails flush with the surface. For roofing, they're great guns. Just didn't work on the hardi.

You may also want to do a search about this. I know it's been discussed before.

Here's a link to the guns we use, though you may also want to check ebay for a used or recon. one.

I agree with gregb, get a roofing nailer.  If your using one of the smaller size hardie like 5 1/4 or 6 1/4 you can use the roofing nails and blind nail them.  It will work fine and looks great because all the fastners are hidden.

If this is a one time thing them check out ebay, after you use it you can resell in on ebay.  If you cannot find one for a good deal then buy one and resell that on ebay.

If by chance it is a cedar roof, a MAX coil siding nailer is a good option. 3 tab shingles? I'd get 2 guns.
