What tile do you like in a small bathroom? I’m going to put tile on the floor and 15-24″ around the jet tub.
Some of the marble is attractive, but don’t think I’d want it on the floor. Some of the other natural stuff seems kinda porous and maybe troublesome for cleaning.
So what do you like?

your house? Tavertine... yes it's natural... and needs sealing but it's nice to walk on... non slip... and resale is great...
I have been putting it in some of my loft bathrooms... mostly 16" clip'n the corners and put'n in 4x4 marble inserts... looks nice and looks expensive... i did one unit where we cliped the corners for 2" SQ's and used 9 small glass tile in each diamond insert... the glass came on a sheet so it wasn't a big deal... think i got like 36 of these glass tile inserts out of one $10sf sheet... big look... small cost...
I only had a limited supply of travertine... so i got a deal on some high end tile... (tile place was shutting down the day i showed up)... i was THE last customer... i had to over buy knowing i'd never get more but i got anything they had left for 50cents a sf... but we are doing the same with the tile... got it in 13" tiles and 18" tiles... got misc boxes of 4" tile for inserts... and misc sheets of 2"sq again to cut up for inserts... tried to buy enough to cover my 20 kitchen back splashes...
I took longer finding floor tile than anything i've had to buy... what i liked i couldn't afford... what i could afford... i didn't like... then i got lucky... found what i liked and could afford... some days are just like that :)
go for the best stuff you can afford... the pain of the money spent will fade far faster than the pain of looking at stuff you don't like everyday...

Maybe, I haven't decided.

Hmm.. I always thought travertine was a porous marble tile (soft and porous being two strikes). But a guy I had come out and look at it recommended travertine too. I was originally going to have him do the floor and halfway up the walls, but he is booked out around 5 months. With me doing the tile, I'm just doing the floor and a bit around the tub.
So two votes for travertine...
big look... small cost...
A man after my own heart!

If I had more $$ to spend on this BA, I would like to put heating coils under the tile. The bathroom is only about 5x14ish, so if I need to I can upgrade to a better tile. Not like we're talking about a huge number of tiles.jt8

doesn't matter what I like, it's your floor.
But ... bigger tiles make a small room look bigger.
"small bath" usually gets recommended 12x12 or there abouts.
(24x24 is usually too big!)
and laying them on the diagonal also opens up the space.
12x12 on the diagonal ... and that's the biggest yer floor is gonna get.
I also like a pedestal sink or a vanity with furniture feet ... see more floor.

I couldn't find it in my picture archive, but it seems like I can remember an old thread where you posted pics of a BA you had done. But I thought you had used a small 1" octagon tile with some kind of pattern?
But you're saying 12" tiles, not the 1" tile sheets to make it feel larger?
The booked up tile guy that looked at it wanted to either do 12" diagonals or a pattern with 3 different sizes of the same tile. So maybe I'll go with yours and pony's suggestions and try a 12" travertine on a diagonal. Gonna need to rent the tile saw.

JeffDo you run the diagonal to the wall or put a border around it?.

If I have to do the tile job, I'd want a big tile to decrease the amount of elbow-smaking grouting in the tight corners and spaces.
But, in the design sense of it, a medium tile used with some style would probably be best. But, I'm a fan of tile used with style and panache (especially if I'm not the donkey having to grout it <g>).Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
The slicker the tiles, the smaller they should be. If the tile itself doesn't have any tooth to it, you need the grout lines for bare, wet feet to grip. I used some slick 8x8 tiles in one bathroom and really regretted it.
I like slate. If you seal it before you grout, it cleans up nicely from the grout and for subsequent mopping. I had slate in my last bath and loved it. I have that rubber flooring in the present one and it's a bugger to keep clean.

I had thought of using 4" slate. Figured it would have rich colors and a good texture for traction. But my realtor and Ma (my color advisor) have poo-pooed my slate on the floor idea. As I'm on the fence about whether I want to move in or sell it when I'm done, I'm better off going with something that will appeal to the mindless masses.

LOL...I've never decorated a house for the very next owner. The houses still seem to sell, despite my experimenting. I have a lovely multi-colored slate with blue and purple tones in my solarium now. I've had so many nice comments about it that i'm on the fence myself about ripping up the rubber flooring and putting more slate down...

Hmm... maybe you could do something like this:

Didn't i post a pic after i got it all trimmed out? <scratching head>There are presently a few dozen assorted amaryllis bulbs in there that started to bloom about two weeks ago. Nice to see those big blooms with the snowy mountains behind them.BTW...i found the best way to free the seeds from the hedge apples you sent was to let them ROT! Then i could just squish the pulp through my fingers and comb out the seeds without that super-stickiness of the green balls' sap. I'll be planting them soon...will report.
I just cut them in half and used the tip of a paring knife to pop them out. Seemed like there were a billion seeds in there. Way more than I'd ever need.

No matter where you look, your eye has something new and interesting to see. I don't like big tile in a bath floor personally. It's not a very good place to take a soapy water floor slide - too much porcelen in the way.
