I would think that you know the volume of solution that you need to release paper. And a new wainscot below should be protected from the drip.

Unfortunately I agree with Calvin. I think it's yours to fix. And i don't think the wood will lay flat again after it dries out.

It's on you. I doubt the adhesive failed. More likely, the wainscot is a ply that wasn't ever designed to get wet. It did, and it started to delaminate.
