Always seeing tools I don’t presently own but wouldn’t mind having.
Some small, some large. Some possible, some out of reach.
I always thought it’d be great to own a backhoe.

Sphere,
So you're into more than just guitars...? Or like so many, is it just an expensive floor ornament?
Actually, to keep with the thread, for me just 3 things:
4' x 8' surface table (iron or granite).
TIG welder
36" disk sander.
That would round out my shop(s).

"more than just guitars?"
Yup, I played drums since I was 7
Keyboards at 9..my Dad is a professional keyboard player still @77. He was one of the first to introduce tone generators and transitors to the industry, he was an engineer at Allen Organ Co. in Pa. One of the largest eletronic organ makers in the world.
I started out on an old Hammond that had the tone generators..now I have a Korg M/1 music workstation..ya hear one all the time on tv shows and movies..commercials and many bands. Great keyboard with midi capabilities..one of the first and best.
My piano is a Wing and Sons, from the turn of the century the LAST one..upright and heavy..needs a lot of work, but is playable..it was here when I bought the house..too heavy to move.
Guitar, bass, banjo and mandolin I started learning in my teens. Gave up the drums around then, not very portable, and I hated always having to have a van, being the first to arrive at a gig to set up, and being the last to leave after tearing down and packing..I had a Ludwig double bass set..better part of an hour to set up..also started serious woodworking and my hearing was taking a beating.
Always wanted to try a sax, but being a smoker I probly don't have the wind..I love jammin when ever time allows. I don't do the playin out stuff anymore..just good ol homegrown pickin with hillbillies..after sumthin like 5 bands, it gets old.
back to the thread..a 64 track ANALOG tape machine..
VOX voice of theater speakers
a slew of Shure 58 mics..

Ahh, there's few things better, than the sound of a B-3 growling through a Leslie.
That was it..hell, I had my Fender Telecaster plugged in the leslie..awesome reverb.
it's a shame, my dad's company would sell a new eletronic organ to churches and they'd TRASH the old B-3's and Pipe Organs..that's partially how I got in the restoration biz of PipeOrgans..too much pain to see em get sledgehammered apart..they did that to lessen the compitition..I hated it.
So consequently my dad an I are not on very good terms..lol. We come from differing ends of the spectrum. The only sound better than a B-3 is an old pipe organ playing a Low C at a 64' stop..makes your insides turn to jelly.

If you're serious about one, guy I recently sold a lovely Powermatic planer to has one with an 8' bed. Bigger than anything I want to own, having just picked up a Powermatic 90. Same guy just sold a P 90 for $300. The large lathe is presumably worth considerably less. As Jon was saying about scrap metal prices.
As to the thread, I'm old enough to have acquired pretty much all the machinery I want to own, except for a nice metal lathe. My biggest problem is that I wasn't smart enough to buy property with a large building one it. Consequently some of my stuff still isn't under roof. Like that 42" sander at the bottom of the driveway. Bottom of the driveway due to the inability of the roll-back to haul the 11,000 lbs up here. Now I've gotta pick it up again. The building's ready (if I move some stuff). Wanna come over and play?PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
I've got a similar space deficiency..my RAS is sittin outside under a tarp, SOLD my lathe in NC, b4 the move..knowing that I had no room. I'd love the behemoth lathe, getting it across the mtns. might be an expense greater then the cost of it tho..
11,000 lb sander? Wide belt? I had an SCMI 36'' dual belt, I don't think it was that heavy...maybe 4 or 5 k...must an oldy when cast iron was cheaper.
Like I have time to play at yer place, I wish..cedar shingles arrive on Sat...back to the roof with me. Still cleaning up storm damage here..had a maple land right where my truck usually is parked, we moved the vehicles right before the big blow..SMRT as Homer says..
Looks like a springpole lathe will have to do me for now..cranked out a shaving horse Mon. Might get some chairs made yet..

Old, you got that right. Mid 50's 3 drums (4 motors). 2 oscillate. Big boy that occupies 8'x9' of floor. Made the only bid at the auction. $25 (apparently too much). A little more to move it. Guess everybody else was scared. Same auction where I met the guy who later sold me a 24" planer (4500 lbs. w/ knife grinder, segmented infeed) and a 30" Crescent band saw. Planer's a sweetie and still here.
Good that you still have a truck. Maple's firewood?
Give a yell if you someday are interested in the lathe. Won't be easy to sell. And John might consider driving his F250 there some trip. Hard to say what that bribe might be.
Have fun on the roof. PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
You're in Lovinston, right? I usta live in Lydia Church, a little west of Stanardsville, a bit north of you. Can you tell me a little more about the lathe...it'd all be downhill from your place<G> Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Yeah, I'm in the twilight zone, again...this just came up as unread, maybe I really "need" that lathe<G> Don't worry, we can fix that later!

Finally getting old enough that it is no longer what tool I want to get , it is more like what I want to get rid of so DW/sons, etc don't have to figure out what to do with it.

Sounds like my parents. They're MAJOR pack rats.
A few years back Dad ran out of room in his 60 X 80 barn. So he built a 40 X 70 machine shed. A few years after that he ran out of room again, and had a 50 X 60 shed built.
This year when I asked him if I could keep my truck in one of his sheds, he said he MIGHT be able to make a little room in the barn. He made just enough to I could back it in and have it out of the rain.
They live in a HUGE old 2 story farm house. All 6 of us used to fit in there with all our stuff. But now it's down to a 2 bedroom house. The rest is storage.
A couple of days ago Dad asked if I would make another cabinet for their upstairs bathroom. All the cabinets and closets are full. They want a 38" wide cabinet that goes from the floor to the 9' ceiling so they can stuff more junk in it.
I told 'em when they're gone the 4 of us kids are gonna get together and remove what we want from the house. Then we're gonna call a junk dealer to come load up the rest. (-:

A William and Hussey molder/planer.
But since I'm dreamin how about a pair of new knees, and while I'm at it that old back of mine could use an upgrade.
I really could use a fresh new attitude my current one has gotten pretty pessimistic nowadays.

I've always wanted a panel saw for cutting up plywood. Its a lot easier than trying to manhandle sheets on a table saw.
Oh yeah, I'd also like a place to put it, like a garage or a bigger shop.
Oh yeah, a panel saw. How could I have forgot.
And while I'm at it, a paint shaker. Always hated stirring paint. Kinda like pulling weeds as a kid.
Paint shaker?
I don't ever think I want to get THAT involved with painting to want a paint shaker.

How can I get this thread off my screen?
When I log into BT, this is the top of the heap.
I used to get a screen with the latest posts on the left with who had recently logged on. All the Welcome to BT bs in the center.
That screen disappeared permanently and has been replaced by this thread. I lost interest in the subject long ago, so how do I change it?

I assume you get to Breaktime by clicking on a saved bookmark in your bookmark file. If you are not logged in to Taunton when you click, you first go to the login screen, then after you log in, you go to the page you bookmarked. When you get to this thread, the line on your browser that shows what URL you are currently looking at (Called the Location: field in my browser) should say something like this, although there may be other path elements instead of "messages".
http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages/?msg=44005.1
If any of these assumptions is untrue, then I can't help you.
If these assumptions are true, then what happened is that this thread got bookmarked instead of the normal Breaktime start page. Click on the Breaktime button, the second button in the second row of buttons at the top of the window. That should take you to the Breaktime start page, the one with the ten most recent threads in the left hand column. Then bookmark that page and delete the bookmark that points to this thread.
Please don't hesitate to ask for more details if I haven't been sufficiently clear or informative.
Bookmark and use this link instead.. http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime...
Get rid of yur old bookmark..

I want Dr.Who's sonic screwdriver. Small, light weight, a cordless unit scarcely larger than a pen that never runs out of power. It will tighten or loosen any fastener, including drilling out rivets, from a distance of a couple of meters even through barriers.
Also disables computers, picks locks, remotely explodes mines, and drives away certain sensitive attackers.ike dogs, with its sonic vibrations.
At various times I have had a burning need for all these function except the mine thing. So far sending out a couple of helpers has worked for clearing those. A bit loud but effective.
Anyone have a line on where I can buy one of these units?

I would like a Periodical devoted to the fine details of home building and remodeling.
A magazine where professionals could come to share ideas and techniques.
With articles that show the nitty-gritty how-to stuff that isn't always pretty.
A resource that deals with the business end of building and remodeling as well as the nuts and bolts.
Someplace where design has its place.
Behind function and getting it done right.
With an intelligent layout designed to get as much information between the covers as possible.
A Magazine that a seasoned professional can look forward to getting every month (or two) and sitting down and reading and learning something.
