What tool’d ya WANT to bring home today
For me today, it was a floor jack at costco.
Extra wide. Two pistons on the pump. Rollers at the contact between the pistons and the pump handle. Extra low starting point on the jack head. Extra high lift. The whole thing built beefier than a brickhouse. 3 tons. This thing was big.
69 dollars.
I got much more important stuff to pay, but man I was about as tempted by that as I have ever been by anything.
I can peacefully choose, to peacefully do, that which I do not want to do.

Just imagine pulling that out of the back of your truck while the other guys are looking on.

I'm waiting for my current (yellow) cordless drills to die so I can get that 15.6 Panasonic impact driver.
I've even got the Tool Crib catalog page sitting next to my chair.
I noticed at one time that if you let those drills fall off the 2nd story roof onto the driveway, a replacement is in your future. Man, go get the Panasonic. It's worth every penny."The child is grown / The dream is gone / And I have become / Comfortably numb " lyrics by Roger Waters

One day I'll have a set of those Starret combination squares. Used 'em once while taking a woodworking class and have had lust ever since. It's hard to describe how one can get excited over a combination square, but they're that good.
Of course, I need a portable lumbermill and a lathe too. Santa's stopped reading my letters.
Gotta be some significant other who will get you one. One of the guys I worked with last year has one, and I agree, they are great - he has the whole combination set.

You're right - I've been down on my game lately. While I "have too many tools already," most of my collection has gone like this:
"I want to get rid of this carpet and put in a wood floor."
"We can't do that, I don't have a chop saw or a floor nailer."
"Well, get them."
I find it's essential to put up a tiny fight, but acquiesce quickly, for fear of winning the fight. :)
Finally replaced my cheap Stanley 12" comb. square a couple of years ago with the Starrett 12". One of the best tool purchases I ever made. I'd say go for it, you won't regret it.
