Foxbrook,
Location, location, location...................
My area.......$25 min...............er, depending on what the hell you mean by "SEMI-SKILLED"?
What the hell does that mean. I figure, like pregnacy, you either are or you ain't!
Where do you live? What type of work? (finish, framing?) Semi-skilled sounds like a laborer. Define the term, please. Can you lay out stairs, roof rise and run, have you built much? No sarcasm here, just lookin for bearings.
Miami
Ok...good point.
To me..... Semi skilled is above laborer. Can layout stairs, rafters, most rough, and finish work. Can be shown more difficult tasks, and pick up quickly. Can handle many tasks on their own. Can handle discussions with customers. However below 'master' carpenter.
Loaction is Northern Delaware, souther Penna.
Thanks again
I personally would be willing to pay that person around $18-$20/hour to start.along with that offer would be the understanding that there would be a reevaluation at the end of that week as well as at the end of thirty days. Usually I would ask the person to work a week at about $12-$15/hour to start. About 3 hours in to the day typically I know the skill level of said person. Usually about 3 minutes really, but I leave a week for nervousness, new boss, etc. If that person just really "rocks" and amazes me, I will usually throw in a hefty bonus at the end of the week and start at the best wage I can afford, as qualified help is very hard to find.

12 to 15 dollars in Arkansas. Of course if there was a critter like that to be had around here he would be able to get 6 or 8 weeks unpaid vacation letting him fish ,hunt or what ever he liked to do. I havent come across anything like that in a long while. Usually when they get their tools and a pick up, they are contractors here.
Foxbrook,
If he is insured, and has his own tools, that could mean several things. First thing that description brings to mind is SUB. If you are hiring this guy as an employee, then YOU insure him, and supply his disposable items like blades, bits, etc... THEN he becomes an employee, and not a sub. If you insist he keep his insurance, then be prepared to cover that cost with higher wages.
Going wages here for a semi-skilled carpenter range from $12 an hour to $17 an hour. Skilled get a few dollars more, then work their way up to Foreman or Lead. Carps here are making pretty good money cause they are working steady 40 plus hour weeks, every week. BIG building boom going on here, and has been for several years. MANY new additions and projects going on, with lots of new ones getting geared up for start. James DuHamel
