hi in the process of finishing my basement and decided to add a bathroom including a custom build corner shower (tiled) went to lowes to buy a shower door, liked a sterling model on they had on display, didnt realize until I had the bottom and side rails installed that it had a fixed rail on top. This does present a problem since I am 5-10 and the door is only 6-5. I know its my fault for not seeing this problem but why would they make a door with a fixed top rail that short. Called lowes and they do sell a 6″ high one in the same design but it is special order…..just had to vent

What am I missing here? You're 5-10 and the door opening is 6-5. Is that too high?

I am betting he is dyslexic... he is 6'5" and the doorway is 5'10".... I have a current bath that kinda sorta gives me this problem.. have to climb into the tub/shower, and its pretty low.... but you know my natural tendency is to lean down to walk out of the tub/shower. I think its cause you are on a slick surface, so you have a natural tendency to be careful when stepping out of the shower.. oh heck, I dont know... never really bothered me....
Only a couple of times have I whopped my head on that upper trim... it couldnt have been many times, cause I really dont remember it... then again, maybe I whop it all the time, and its head injuries causing me to forget.. hehehe If it doesnt involve cutting the thing(thus your not being able to return it), or if you are stuck with the lower one.. maybe you should install it and see if you dont mind the lowness.... until your post, I never really even thought about it being an option to have a taller door.... then again, it could be that head injury thing talking....
Regardless, I am 6'3"... dont blame you for venting, but shiot happens.... Measure twice, cut once!
I'm betting that the door is a 65 inch door which is a common size. Sterling makes their doors 65-1/2 inch and a 70-5/16. Basco makes theirs 63,72,67
What am I missing? LOL
A 65 inch tall door would only be 5 feet 5 inches!
But the original poster has my sympathy; obviously the door is too short, whatever it is! :)

Who is 5 foot 8 inches tall (that's 68 inches).
Don't know what you are missing. These doors are meant to sit on top of a bathtub and are standard sizes
