Just curious whether my cost quote is in line.
For exterior work, I’m looking at $22/sf cost for a sub to take it from CDX sheathing on out. So that would include felt, lath, screws, mortar, stone, grout, cleaning, and sealing.
Near as I can tell, the material component of that figure amounts to $14/sf or so.

Seems more or less inline for what we would pay for El Dorado stone.
Frankly I'm surprised. For once we're pricy on something. I think the lowest I've heard of is $18/sf, $30 is a lot more realistic. Odd. But then, there's darn few stone people here. It doesnt get used much.Real trucks dont have sparkplugs
$14.00 per SF material components......not here in TX.
Just did about 400 SF of Eldarado Stone. Hard cost were about $13.00 per SF labor and materials, but the stone installer also did all of the stucco work, which may have lowered his cost to me for the stone install....basically the same prep work.
first floor only or you going on up"
what kind of site access?
What time of year?
It might be a bit on the high end of the range I would expect, but there are plenty variables that could be good reason

Stone up on a simple rectangular boxed chase. Ground all level and pretty at the base. Base to top is 26 feet. Summer conditions, radio playing, swat some flies. When it goes through the gable, you're working off a 10-pitch roof.
I can see it being that expensive if we're just talking about a chimney chase. Over maybe 10 linear feet, you've got to start and stop and turn two corners- there's no room to get any decent production going.
Around here we pay around $28/SF installed for large areas, and that's using union labor. The stone material itself is around $7/SF, and the corners are around $14/LF, so again your material cost are higher than usual because you've got a large amount of corners given the total area.
Bob
It's worth it for just a chimney chase. I thought you had something in the works that had a whiole series of units faced with this stuff.

Wow faux stone is cheap.
Haveing the whole house I am building stoned. And the bridge sides, the back porch gets double wall, and some interior work.
Just the stone was $243.00 per ton, and we have about 110 tons on the job.
Stone mason gave us a T&M price at 62.00 per man hour.

Why T&M? Around here we pay by the square foot. That way if the mason wants to goof off, it's on his dime. For regular web or rubble wall we pay $8/sf labor. Stone varies from $135/ton - $250/ton depending on what you get and where it's from. Actually if I get from a local quarry, I can probable get for around $75/ton if I haul. I usually figure a standard stone at about $14/sf.John

Kind of a weird project.
Everyone is T&M. More changes everyday.
Original blueprints lacked details.
Homeowner took all the bids, wadded them up, and said these are the people on the job.
We get 10% on everyone plus our T&M plus 10%.
Guess that makes us cost plus.
Been a great job, and quite challenging.

I see. So ultimately you are not paying the T&M. Cost plus....doing/did a couple of those recently. I didn't quite like it because I can make better margins with a straight out bid. But a lot of people around here are going to that.

I am just the superintendant/foreman. My margins are the same, no matter how we do the deal.
This job is not typical, for a local oil man, who hired people he knows from the area.
All are reptable though. Not like a bunch of jack legs or anyhting. cept the archi.Friends help you move.

That's only slightly higher by a buck or so to what we have from one supplier/installer.
Remember installation price varies by type of stone, just like tile only thicker and on the outside. Same for materials costs.
It's like asking everyone what they are paying per sqft for tile without specifying type and size.
Happy Holidays!
Beer was created so carpenters wouldn't rule the world.
I guess that is why my sub, who by the way is really first class, lays out the number and says, "pick any one you want."
Sounds as if his price is just fine, and that he need never think about branching into Texas.
Stone $15 sq.ft turnkey
Stucco $4.00 sq.ft turnkey
Were in Az. So if you want to talk to the lead guy, you better know your spanish!
there is such a differance of the cost of the materials around here
that I always give the customer/contractor a handful of manufactuors
lititure and ask them to pick one and I,ll go from there, even such comman
place things as masonry sand, and morter mix have huge price differances.
I,ll do it all from anywhere $9.00 squ.ft to 22.00 squ.ft for the fake stuff
from 15.00 to 30.oo for real rock then again that depends on the type
of stone, pattern and traveling distance.hey have you ever noticed
that masons have a right powerful grip--thats for holding G.C.s by the short
hairs. :) DW

New River valley, huh? Gorgeous spot.
You must have read, "Follow the River." The story begins there, somewhere near Sinking Spring, with an daylight Indian raid on a household of Scotch-Irish subsistence farmers, a couple generations before the Revolutionary War.
You must be good, as my guy is. He knows that bit about short hairs, too! ;-)

after laying ones hands on,and playing around with
a few hundred tons of rocks, ya tend to get good at
something, nothing else just playing with rocks! and yep
sinking springs is just over the hill from me.the only
savages we have around here now are students from
Va. tech and Radford university, and then again maybe
me and my younguns.
Ya ever do any trout fishing in Sinking Creek, down from Newport, around Simmondsville...the fish are longer than the creek is wide<G> Oh God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No." Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin' you better run"
Well Abe says, "Where do you want this killin' done?"
God says, "Out on Highway 61."
havnt fished sinking creek in craig ,but ive fished cripple ,littleSnake and big
snake creeks ,little reed island and many more in carroll, floyd, greyson
counties.Ive got a rock job coming up this spring between newport
and newcastle if the financing gods should prevail themselves to my
prospective customers. The snake creeks run though my family farm,
the state releases their stripper trout ,the worn out breeders just
downstream from the farm you are right about the size of some of
them things the creek is about 10' across and ive caught rainbows
and browns in the 18" to 24" range, but best of all are the fiesty little
natives I release all of those I catch. if ya want to go give me a holler
we'll get into something, im supose to go bear hunting next week, but i,ll
check my email regurly though.
