I have a RoboToolz (Now Porter Cable) 5 beam laser unit. It is self leveling, and I have enjoyed it over the few years I have used it. It’ has gotten moderate or light use. It is well cared for, but of course, it was all wonky when I went to use it yesterday. Grrrrr.
It insists that “level” is about 6″ higher every three feet.
I doubt this is an issue that “calibration” will resolve.
I will try to dork around with it, but in the likely event that is unsuccessful, it will have to go for repair. Uggg.which will cost $100 easily, and take weeks, no doubt. So I am thinking of replacement.
I liked it, although I would have loved it if it had an option for a line as opposed to a dot. It was inexpensive considering the freedom it created. A lot of jobs were speeded up.
So, is the new porter Cable version better or the same. Have others had issues like this?
What should I look at for as a replacement? What do you guys use these things for, and what features do you like/hate?

PLS 2 for lines, PLS 5 for dots. Pacific Laser Systems make outdoor versions of both now, I think. I have the 2, and it rocks for indoor work.

considering your previous response, I have to chuckle. Hilti.

PR16 is a great little bugger at the bottom of their price spectrum. And remember the H in Hilti stands for haggle.

It's the same, just bears the Porter-Cable name.
Maybe contact their customer service?

as mentioned, the PLS2 is super.
we use the PLS360e, ( the e makes it usable with a detector for outside use ) which is a fantastic tool.
somewhere around $700. yes, it's a lot of money, but, can you afford a new Robo every 3 years ?
