I rigged a dust/crud collector to my shop vac and RAG with a fluted diamond blade…
works quite well….
minor draw back though…
I was cutting installed ceramic floor tile at a pretty agressive rate….
apparently hot pieces of ceramic and or the boat load of sparks that I was producing were sucked up by the SV…. just like advertised…
after about 10′ of continous cutting I noticed a pretty strong odor….
I stop…
turn around…
YOWZER!!!!
the SV was on smoking to beat the band….
yanked it’s plug from the wall….
snagged it up and bolted for the door…
made it about 3′ and flames made their presentation….
did get it to a snow bank before it set fire to rest of the place……
smoked the house up pretty good..
wasn’t any burn damage….
guess I was on the lucky side…
sooooooooooo…..
apparently the sparks or hot chips ignited the trash or filter that was in the vac…
I think maybe the moving air kept the embers glowing till I shut it off…. and then it erupted into flames…
now what would have happened if a spark had started the process at the end of the cut or it was slow or long time coming on the flame up while I went to go get someting or did something else and wasn’t there to for the intial ignition…
shiver from the chilled spine syndrome thing at this point…
If anybody is going to use their SV in the same manner….
keep a close eye on things and take every preventive measure ya can come up with…
don’t turn yur back on it… ya could get bit… this was too close for comfort…
BTW… do you have any idea how long those black plastic carbon nodules remain suspend in the air????

Very damp cutting would have been best. Just enought to hold the dust.
Great adventure you had!
no lie...
hope some see this as a safety message and remember what happened here...
it was close....

Wow....glad to hear it wasn't worse and that you are OK.
My fear usually involves a sawzall blade getting too hot and sparking something behind what I'm cutting.
Be careful out there.
