Another post, the one about denim work shirts, made me curious about where others buy their work clothes. As one who destroys what I’m wearing on a regular basis (and not just at work), I get mine at the local thrift store. Where do you shop, or if spousy does it for you, where do they shop? Also, what is your preferred work uniform?
Inquiring minds (nosey people) want to know =)

I buy Key dungerees at the farm store (Bomgaars), T shirts with our company name on the pocket from a local shirt print shop.
Summer I go to sleeveless shirts from same shirt source and light weight shorts from LL Bean. Shorts are not very tough, but they are comfortable and my sweat dries fast.
Work shoes are Merrill tennis shoes.
Coats are from the shirts shop with logo. Water resistant shell and sweat shirt type liner.

"dungerees" ?
Are we really allowed to start using that word again?

I missed something here. That's what carpenter's pants are labeled here.

Sorry, I really haven't heard that word used for jeans since I was a wee lad, but back then, that's what we ALWAYS called them as in "take off your school clothes and put on your dungarees before you go out and play".
I thought the word had fallen out of fashion, but I guess it depends on where you live.

Dungerees.
That's what Key labels their carpenter pants.
As kids we used to call all blue jeans, Levis.
We never used the word dungerees. Nor do I today.
They are just jeans with a knife pocket and a hammer loop.

I buy arbor wear or carhartt, usually from Cabalas for the points or direct from arbor wear. Some of the best wearing work./ hunting duds I've ever owned.

Wrangler jeans at Walmart-14.95
Coats, sweatshirts and insulated bibs-Carhart outwears anything else I've ever owned. I buy them where ever they are on sale.
I absolutely love Duluth Trading long tailed T's. The most comfortable I've ever owned. I've bought some other Duluth stuff and have really liked it.
I'm considering some of the pants with the knee pads in them since my knees are shot, but can't get used to thinking about splattering paint over something I spent more than $15 bucks on.
Salvation Army. Prices on jeans have gone up about 33% in the last year. Still a good value.

jeabs, dickie/carthart style, socks, underwear- wally world.carthart jackets, internetjustin boots- internetshirts, button, T, polo, are company logo, company storewe are not allowed to go sleeveless, not allowed to wear shorts, tennis shoes, soft shoes.
I like Duluth, Carhartt and Army Surplus, but I'm handicapped by available sizes. I need a 32/38 pants , and they are rare. Some (like Carhartt) make custom order, others the wife lets the hems out of 36 so I don't have highwaters.

Several mentions in this thread about Diluth, makes me wonder what I've been missing out on. I've always been skeptical about ordering clothing online, but now I'm thinking maybe I should give them a shot. I like what I see in their catalog.~ Ted W ~

I have been wearing Carhart pocket T's for a long time. and the past couple years I noticed the neck collars have been wearing out and fraying too soon. I am trying out the henley type T's and they seem to hold up better.I am also trying out the Duluth trading pocket T's and shirts are comfortable and holding up pretty good so far. I quit buying the cheap shirts because they usually shrink too much.Carhart or lee carpenter jeans are pretty good. I tried the Riggs ? wrangler jeans and they wore out and (tore the back pockets).
I go through Jeans like crazy since they have gotten cheaper and thinner over the years. Levi's use to last me maybe 5-6 months before I put a hole in the knee (and that was being careful). LAst year I bought a couple of pairs made by All American Clothing (formerly Union Jean Co.) I think I went a full year before the knees started going.
Not bad at l less than $30.00 a pair when they are on sale.
I buy a bunch of pocket T's on sale and have my logo embroidered. I'll wear a good one until I have to get messy and then switch to one that's seen better days. Blue work pants are 2 for $5 at the flea market and they always have my size.
I just dont like wearing clothes that other people have worn. Could of been a crack hoe or work in a chemical plant.
Could of been a crack hoe...
Yeah, I'm sure a lot of crackheads donate their used clothing. LOL!
But I understand your sentiment. There are some things I won't buy at a thrift store. Underclothes for obvious reasons, but also shoes, hats, bed coverings.. In fact, work duds is pretty much the only clothing I'll buy from them. Sometimes I happen across a casual dress shirt or a pair of dockers that are obviously brand new, probably just didn't fit and the donor has better things to do than return clothing. In fact, sometimes I am the donor - when I go thrift shopping, if I have stuff I bought that doesn't fit I take it back. Better than throwing it out. ~ Ted W ~

You are aware that that you can wash them before you wear them? For me it's a no brainer, shorts for a 7 year olds girl even at wally world 10 bucks a pop. Can get 5 pairs at the Goodwill store. There's one close by in the rich bastiges neighborhood that always has good stuff.....
if you seen the people in my town, you would burn them
that's the trick with thrift and resale ...
go to the ones in the better neighborhoods!
beginning of the week I was gonna stop in Walmart ... wife said check if they have any shorts for the 2 yr old, she needs play shorts.
I went to the thrift store ... found 5 brand new, with tags ... each for $0.95.
got one in every color they had.
some store somewhere changed their stock.

You got it! The stuff my wife hangs at has a lot of that stuff. Most of it is from the rich bastiges that bought it and never even bothered wearing it or taking the tags off.I however draw the line at the used underwear.....Lefty-Wearing his $2.00 Rigid Tools windbreaker
no day feels better than a day started off with brand new underwear and socks!

They look pretty nerdy to me. I'm not a job site anymore but if I was I think I'd be laughed off the site.
Duluth trading company for almost everything.
Excellent stuff-- I call em on the phone and a couple days later it arrives at my house------- freeing me from going to the store
Levis are #### by the way----- I am losing a lot of weight and had an almost brand new pair of levis( my "good" jeans)---which were basically now to big for me-- I figured I would roof in them and get some wear out of them that way
Wore the almost new pair yesterday--trashed in one day!

Ted,
Dickies carpenter pants from the farm supply store. Usually less than $20 a pair on sale. I pick up a few pair, when the sales are on.
I destroy 2 pair a year. I wear them as good pants(off work) for a few months, then sub in a pair to the work pile as an old one gets too bad for public display.
T-shirts, whatever is getting a bit old for good wear. About half the year(colder seasons) I wear some old LL-Bean synthetic coldwear shirts. Think the predecessor to under armour cold gear. They are light, tough, and I don't need another layer above about 25 degrees.
When it's real cold I'll add a fleece jacket, if really windy and below zero, I'll add a light shell over that.
I've never liked the heavy weight of a Carhart type jacket. Too tough to move in.
For hats, whatever old baseball cap I have (vendors and subs are always giving those out), or if it's cold, the old Kromer.
On my feet, always Wolverine Dura Shocks with steel toes. Usually get them from J.C.Penneys, as the local boot store went out of business.
I wear the new ones as dress boots for a few month, till they start getting a bit beat, then they become work boots(already well broken in). I try to keep 2-3 pair in the work pile, and rotate, so they can dry, etc.I get well over a year out of a pair that way.
