I am installing 8x8x16 cement blocks on an old hot-tub slab to provide an elevated platform for a stone fire pit on an elevated deck. I am not a mason but have seen enough work done to do it myself. But I am confused as to what mortar to use, I see stone masons use Salors mix a lot. It seems they use it because they need lots of volume between stones. I want to fill the voids where I have vertical re-rod and the cuts I made in the block to make a circular base. Can I just use sakrete motar mix from Homies? Confused

Use the Type S mortar. It is a lot harder than type N when it cures. That is important when you have big voids you are filling.
