If you put down soft pine on your floors you'd better finish it with something hard - and then don't walk on it with anything but stocking feet.
*Jim, Contact the National Wood Floor Association for extensive info. As with all soft woods, I would suggest that you beat the floor with chains lightly so that you are not disturbed whenever you drop something on the floor. I have a discussion post on "construction techniques" that answers the polyurethane questions. GW
*It's not pine but close. I used kiln dried doug fir as flooring in a yoga/martial arts studio and a post and beam home. The stock was 2 by 6 T&G without a subfloor. We finished it with a water based diamond finish by the same company that makes Varathane, applied with a lambswool wand and sanded lightly between coats. Neither floor sees much hard shoe traffic... but they look great.
