The “Undesigned Minnesota Cottage” in the latest Houses issue has a picture of swing-in casement windows that can interchange screens and storm windows. They’re very European in style. Anyone know who makes them, or similar? I want them “free” opening, i.e. no crank mechanism.

Good evening Kathleen,
We distribute inswing tilt and turn European style windows. If you want specific information, Email me with the number required and the sizes and I will send you back information and quotes.
Gabe
*Kathleen - I can make them for you. - jbHey Gabe - this sure seems familiar, doesn't it? :-) - jb
*Deja vu, Jim,Life's funny that way. The last gentleman was fustrated by some local company that had quoted him about 50 grand for a 15 grand job. The window detail was quiet simple but they were quoted in pine and I thought it was too flimsey and suggested oak. Also the windows were too narrow for our details because our frames are quiet heavy.BTWDid you ever walk into a government building and into an empty lobby, find yourself waiting for someone to serve you for about 15 minutes, just to have a civil servant come to the counter and yell out a number, BEFORE he will serve you only to find out you missed your turn.God I hate swivel servants.Gabe
*Kathleen, if you're wondering what they're talking about, there is an earlier topic on these windows in the archive. Search for "tilt-turn" should bring it up. Marvin makes these too, though I'm sure gabe's are much better :)

Dear Gabe,
I am also interested in in-swinging french casement windows for my new home. In addition, I am also interested in tall, narrow french doors that match the windows.
I would be interested in receiving a catalog, if available, or e-mail me at "[email protected]" so that we can discuss my specific requirements.
The project has at least 13 french doors (3.5 to 4 feet wide by 8 feet tall) and approximately 25 windows (3.5 to 4 feet wide by 6 feet tall).
The exteriors are to be stained and varnished for a natural wood look.
Thanks for your help.

Steve you should also send Jim your window specifications as well, he can make your windows for you out of wood.
Mine are only available in PVC and are tilt and turn with thermal panes, I don't do single glazings.
Gabe
*Steve - Gabe's right. I have built many a door and window through the years. If you can't find what you want commercially, let me know, and we'll see if we can come up with a plan that makes sense for us both. Thanks Gabe. When I was 14 I had a job after school in a hardware store and heard the owner refering someone to a competitor and asked him about it. He said "we're here to serve people, if we don't have what they want, we send them to someone who might. You'll learn, you will get a lot farther in life cooperating than you will by competing." Nice to see you have the same ethic. - Jim

Geez - thanks everyone for the great info. I'm mind-building a porch and am in the "screen-porch" or "three/four season" porch quandry. We live in northwestern Wisconsin (not far from that "Undesigned House") and although a screen porch would be heaven here in mosquito haven, three months of summer doesn't allow much use of a strictly screen porch. But I really want the porch feel, so thought those style windows would do a better job. I don't have sizes yet, Gabe, but will definitely keep a copy of this discussion for the future. You'll be hearing from me - as will you, too, Jim. Thanks!

We're considering removable windows, using some single-glazed sash removed from elsewhere in the house. So screens most of the year (Virginia) and glass during the summer to stop that nasty draft. the porch railing is solid. I'd post a picture if, uh, it were a bit more finished. Soon!
