What's the outcome gonna be?
They coming back?
Makes a beautiful job....................ugly in some kind of way.
What'd the homo's say?
Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.
Quittin' Time
Given a few years, a little wear and tear, yellowing, greying, black spots and pulling away from the surfaces in spots it is going to look ... remarkably, obviously, gloriously, bad.
New it doesn't look all that bad unless one has seen these things age.
don't know what the outcome will be, other than 4 lorn's prediction, homeowner hadn't seen it as of my leaving.
wall is not so out of plumb- there is a ceramic piece that sits out further than the marble and they ran the block to it- and filled the big honking wound with silicone.
i hope the homeowner doesn't ask me what i think...
Pretty good grout joints, don't you think?
If HO not saying anything, I ain't going to say anything. Just between you and the guys here.
So is the wall not plumb or what?

Did they go the extra mile and smear silicone all over the painted wall?
Smile. It could be worse. You could be me working for you.
Just curious whether this glass block wall is tied into the tiled wall in any fashion in some of the horizontal grout lines? Or is the silicone the only thing "stabilizing" it? That wide of a silicone bead is pretty unsightly.
Steve,
The wall appears to be done using what Corning refers to as their "Mortar II Method."
https://www.pittsburghcorning.com/includes/specs/mortar12.pdf
If done correctly, there should be galvanized steel ties every other row fastened into the wall through the tile, and embedded into the mortar.
The silicone caulked gap is large. It should not be more than 3/8", and Corning says to shoot for 1/4".

okay- the block is not tied into the wall other than the silicon bond. it is in fact that far from plumb plus there are trim pieces that push it out more...
don't look any better today than yesterday...
lucky for me i am the trim guy- except i will have to make that look good- hey you know what- i am on vacation in about twenty hours-
taking bets that it will be there when i get home

Hubcap,
Well, I guess someday there's going to be a pretty upset and embarrassed set of home owners', when that wall falls over when they are "doing it" in the shower.
Jon
anybody who can caulk that wide that well (esp silicone!) shouldn't have had to or should have known better.
Wow, it looks awful.... but I don't know of any 7 5/8" x 8" glass blocks that'd compensate for the offset between the tile below & the wall above. IMHO, shoulda run the ceramic up so the glass block has something in the same plane all the way up.
They better at very least have some bond breaker tape behind this mammoth caulk joint, forcing it to bond to the GB and the wall ONLY....or that caulk is toast before the end of the year..
Did they get paid? Is the opening to big for the block? Did they specify the opening size?

hey caulking aint a piece of trim
somebody screwed up
caulking is not a piece of trim
If that wall's a keeper then it's time to get creative with some trim or shelving.
"just nail that board up there!!!"
"look, lady..."
They already trimmed it with the 5/8" caulk gun.
