I just had a wholehouse fan installed this weekend. We had to remove
the insulation etc where the fan was installed. The new large 30 x
30-inch vent does not seem to leak air. But there is no insulation over the thin metal louvers.
The question is how does one insulate the hole in the insulation where
the fan is now? Has any one had expereince with this?
Suggestion and comments are encouraged either by email or to the list.
Thanks

Kerry - We built a frame for ours, wired it with a long length of BX cable and we drop it into an attic access opening, so it just gets lifted up and out in the winter - replaced with an insulated panel. You could add one above or below depending on accessibility, but make sure the breaker is off in the off season (I put the fan on a separate breaker for just this reason).

*Kerry;I also have a whole house fan. It's not pretty but; in the winter I tape a piece of foam board over the entire unit to insulate the "whole". We live in central Ohio and get some winter. The fan is on the 2nd floor, in a hallway so the foamboard is not that noticeable. Will
*I take the grill off and put blue board in mine, then cover the back of the louvers with plastic and reinstall. I also use foam tape arond the edges year round to create a better seal to the ceiling.Dave
