I am working with my wood flooring sub, trying to specify a finish. I look at waterborne moisture-cure urethanes, specifically Basic Coatings’ “Street Shoes” line, and I find that you can get gloss, semi-gloss, satin, and “super matte.”
Why so many choices? What’s the benefit of each?

I would guess that there are many choices because some people like matte, some like gloss, etc., etc.
The one functional difference I'm aware of is the glossier the finish the more visible scratches in the floor are.
For example, if I did the sanding, then you'd want the super matte so you wouldn't see all of the places I screwed up. If Ian sanded it, you could safely put the gloss down.

Another day, another tool.
It all comes out in the gloss
;)
They are all gloss to start with.
Then a de-glosser is added to the mix. Hoiw much added is how flat the finish is.
It is important when applying to keep mixing or the deglosser settles to the bottom and different areas of he floor wioll have different finishes.
Some people demand high gloss and then don't let any boidy walk on it because it is almost impossible to maintain in a high gloss state, but it is indeed beautiful.
Semi-gloss does well for most people unless they have dogs and kids
Satin is flatter yet but still shows a sheen. Semigloss will look like Satuin after a couple of years so it is better to start with it IMO
Excellence is its own reward!
If you use moisture cure I think its imperitive that the first coat has to be gloss. You better read the can.
I've seen too many subs screw this up and the top coats start bubbling.
Another thing is, you can get it in a non yellowing finish which you would use if its going to be a very light stain under it or no stain at all.
If you use a stain such as provincial you don't need a non yellowing finish.
Check it out cause a non yellowing finish is a hell of a lot more money if you don't in fact need it.
