Greetings from Amsterdam,
I am hanging a bunch of doors and windows and today I ran into a problem that has got me perplexed. I was installing 2 new wooden out swinging doors into an existing frame and everything was going along great until I closed both doors and , well, they are not hitting the stops as they should be. I am hitting the top stop with one door but not the bottom and exactly the opposite with the other door. I checked the frame with 2 strings and it seems not to be twisted and my hinges are all reasonably lined up and not binding along the side jambs. Moving the stops is not an option here as we only have 1 piece jambs with built- in stops.Possible warped doors? Old hinge mortises to deep? If I move the door out it will be outside the frame so that is not really an option either. Please let me know what steps I can take to diagnose my problem. Thanks a lot, Dan Seelig

Welcome to BT Danny. Is your check in the mail?
If the doors are not warped check the buck side of the door. Is the door spaced to the stop the same. Is the buck side plumb. Out of plumb? Try and fix it.
Check for door warp. String the door diagonally top to bottom. The string should just barely touch the door. Do this to the inside and outside of the door.
You could move the strike side of the jamb to fit the door. The door not hitting on the top - move the bottom of the strike jamb in, the top out or both. The opposite for the the other door.
Basically wrack the jamb to fit the door.
Spent a lot of time up at Edam. Beautiful country you have.
Who ever invented work didn't know how to fish....
If you're sure the jamb's sides aren't crosslegged, I would check to see if the hinge is cocked a little in the mortice. If you rock a hinge back or forward would that correct the problem? If the casings are off you might be able to get a flat bar back behind the jamb and tweek them a little in or out. Best of luck, hanging doors isn't always this much fun.
