I’m about to go postal on a few of my staple guns….
With in the past year, I’ve purchased two new Paslode sheething staplers. Both shoot 1/2″ crown staples. Both have worked great untill recently. Now, I can’t fire either of them with out them miss-firing ALL DAMN DAY! They work fine for about the first 40 shots, then start hitting about every other time. Over time, it gets worse, only hitting about every 4 – 6 shots. I maintain them well, oil them daily, run them at 120 psi (max) consistently.
Anyone out there have this problem?? If so, what do I need to do to fix them and keep them from becoming the next entry in the “tool toss olympics, pnumatic division”?
Thanks much…

If it's like my Paslode, it's because it's too cold. There's a rubber "bumper" in mine that's responsible for helping the return to full cock. When that rubber gets just a bit too cold, it doesn't have as much bounce. Warm the gun and everything's fine again.
Annoys me too.
are ya usin' the cheap staples?...
Had a problem with my Paslode (2600 I think it is) recently. Would very consistanly only fire every other shot. Started in the afternoon sheeting a garage, and couldn't figure out why. Turns out it started when we added another 100' of hose to get around the back side of the garage. Had the compressor plugged directly into the outlet in the garage next door and already had about 100' of 1/4" hose run when we added the second 100' it was just enough pressure drop to cause it to mis fire every other shot. Dropped the hose length by 50' down to 150' and it worked just fine again.
Guess I should have a 3/8" feeder, but, I like that 1/4" flex eel so much I switched everything over.
Another way to solve that problem would be to use a reservoir tank near the gun. That way you're not affected by the friction of the long hose. A friend of mine made one using a large propane tank.

I took them to my tool guy...he says he'll replace all the rings and other "guts" of the things...promises to have them as good as new in two days....we'll see!
Make sure you unplug the air feed before applying the sledge to the paslode so that the pretty orange plastic parts dont go airborn.
I don't use a staple gun, but I had a similar problem with my finish nailer. It turned out to be the depth adjustment. It was at the minimum limit and not firing. I would have to hit it four or five times.
I never messed with the adjustment so I didn't think about it, but I loaned it out one day and it got adjusted. Once I noticed the nails were not setting, it was an easy fix.
Never used a Paslode stapler, but I've had several Paslode nailers and they all only work well with proprietary nails. Generics work for a shaort time and then the jamming begins.
Yup, sounds exactly like what happens every time we start using generic staples and nails.
