My brother just bought a new townhouse. It is only a year old and the floors squeak like hell. Very noisy.
Basement is open and the joists are 2×8 with ply subfloor. Obviously the subfloor was not glued to the joists. Parquet and vinyl floors so no chance of adding nails above without making holes.
I was thinking of running beads of PL Premium along the joists/subfloor on both sides of the josts. Do you think this would work?

Definitely worth a try. Can't see it would hurt, and glue is much cheaper than any other option that comes to mind.

I would add 2x2 strips along the joists--glue to the subfloor, glue and screw to the joists. It may not be perfect but it will make a huge improvement. I don't think I'd try to screw up into the subfloor... too much risk.
This works, extreme caution on screw length and angle. With your brother up top and hopefully weighing a good bit to depress the subfloor and locate the squeek. Run screws up at an angle (toe screw) through the joist and into the subfloor. You could add glue after you screw. Glue alone? Might work.

PL Premium is awesome stuff. It expands slightly as is cures--I bet it would work.
I imagine that you haven't got a noticeable gap between subfloor and top of joist.
I would certainly consider adding a 2x4 nailed to joist, glued and screwed (pocket screwed?) to subfloor.
The other possibility would be to find a lower viscosity glue than PL Premium (such as Weldbond) and use a syringe to inject it between the joist and subfloor. Maybe use a short prybar to open crack, then after injecting glue (and removing prybar), load floor with something heavy (sofabed, 40 sheets of drywall, whatever) to get subfloor to sit tight to joist. And then pocket screw joist to subfloor as well.
