I am doing a repair/replace job on some poorly installed windows. The windows were installed with their flanges nailed to the framing and then plywood sheathing was attached overlapping/covering these window flanges. This exterior area was trimmed/covered with cedar 1″ x 4″ (no flashing) and the entire house exterior is stucco on lath/tar paper on plywood. The stucco butts flush to the cedar trim. Rain has made its way through at the cedar/stucco joint, rotted some of the cedar and further rotted some of the framing. Most of the framing is in good shape.
My question: if I remove the 2″ of plywood overlapping the window flanges and flash this area with peel and stick flashing will this peel and stick hold up if stucco is applied on it as the new window trim?

I can't wait to see what Blue has to say about this one!
It sounds like you have a real mess there, Mike. Any way you can get out of doing this job?
Are you planning to leave the windows where they are?
We don't have much stucco around here, but I think it would be pretty tough to do all that patching and make it look good.

do the world a favor and hunt down the guy that did that.....
I'm afraid the only solution will be to rip into the stucco around every window then make it right and re-stucco
