I am going to be tearing out our spare bedroom window in our home that was built in 1960 for which I have a couple of questions as the exterior wall is stucco.
- How thick is stucco usually?
- What kind of saw blade do you recommend that I use on my circular saw?
Finally, any tips or reference material that you can point me to to apply stucco patch around the window so the trim can be installed.
Due to the change in California code from 1960 I am having to re-frame the rough opening for egres.
Thanks.

Diamond masonry blade, about $20.
Question... what type and size of window are you taking out?
You may be able to change the window to another type such as a casement or single hung. This would enable you to use a retrofit window and not need to tear out or repair stucco.
The current window is the original aluminumn frame single pane window. We are going to replace it with windows made by Sierra Pacific, which we used in the remodel of the living area of the house - great windows and doors by the way.
The replacement window will be a casement, a fixed pane, and then another casement, which will come as one assembly. As maybe already mentioned - due to a change in the building code regarding egress, the bottom of the new window will be 48" above the floor. Orginally the room was the formal dining room. It is now a fourth bedroom/office area."Projects beget projects and projects beget the need to buy new tools and that is what the cycle of life is all about."
