Hey guys
I need to build some double hung windows for my farmhouse, and I want to save myself a world of pain by using the kind of jamb system that, for instance, Marvin uses on their wood windows. They are vinyl, and spring in to make a good seal.
Anybody know who sells stuff like this?

Wild guess-Marvin?
Seriously, Marvin sells a kd double hung replacament window that comes with jamb liners. A rough opening frame with 3 1/4 jamb pocket would be pretty easy to build.

Buying Marvin inserts is almost as expensive as buying the whole window. Why not just do that? Are you trying to make the sashes match others in the house?

Excellence is its own reward!
It may not be as simple as sourcing the PVC jamb liner extrusions. You'll need to do the kind of end fab cuts required to mate them to your frame parts. I've been in a few window plants, and that is usually done in rotary punches. You'll need sources for the spring balances, sash pivots, sash locks, corner seals, weatherstripping, and more.
Then you'll need to tool up with shaper bits or molding knife blades for your sash and frame profiles, and be prepared for the special end tenoning that will be required to machine everything to go together.
Are you going into the window biz, or do you just like challenging projects?
No, I just like building windows. But the air sealing is always a drag. I don't care if they are Marvin brand, in fact the extrusions are probably made by someone else.
Sure would be nice to buy 20' of it...
I made a set of "tilt pac" knock offs from the old sashes and a jamb liner I bought. All I had to do was run the sashes through the table saw to shorten them up and the put a dado on the sides to work with the jamb liner I bought. There was a little hook that came with the jamb liner that you attached to the windows. The only reason I did this is the windows were curved at the top and there was no way to get a real tilt pac without writing a big check. They work pretty well but not as good the the other tilt pacs I have put in as replacement windows in the house. The jamb liners can be had in various lengths and then you just trim the bottom to fit.
Hey that sounds exactly like what i'm looking for. Where did you buy it?
I wish I could help you with the source, I think I bought them from some glass shop in Chicago it was probably five or six years ago.
They do exist and can be found but I remember looking. I seem to remember seeing some at Menards once. I would guess that perhaps a good lumber yard might be able to order them for you as well. It may take a little searching but they are out there.

Or try to get a hold of Shelter Magazine (not available on news stands). This magazine deals with the components of windows and doors from an array of vendors.

Do a google search for window hardware. I do not recall the company name , but they are in NY state, I bought similar hardware several years ago. They sent me a catalog that I'm looking for now, if I find it I will send you an email.
