Hi all , I have a question, I am installing a frame around a window with a corrian sill and it needs to be trimmed 1″across the front so shutter will sit flush. I am wondering If I could score the line with a glass cutter and hit it with a chisel ? Has anyone ever tried such a thing . Please advise. I wait to hear from some of you brains. Thanks Susan

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

I'd be surprised if that worked, though it might. Have any left over pieces to play with? I would score a line with a carbide laminate trimmer--score it several times, then use either an angle grinder (wear dust mask and eye protection!) or a circular saw with a diamond blade to cut most of it. The scoring would just, maybe, prevent chipping on the wrong side of the cut.
If you don't get more replies here, you may want to try going to the Breaktime forum (three to the left of House Chat above) and ask there--you'll get a lot of responses. (They're construction guys mostly and will fall all over themselves to help out a woman!)
Cutting the sill back flush with the wall might look odd. It might be better to trim the shutters to close above the sill. I think most classic window trim arrangements have the side casings stitting on top of the sill horns with an apron below the sill. Alternatives might be to picture-frame the casings with 45-degree miters at the corners, or, drywall all around with a sill of wood, marble or solid-surface material (Your situation?).
If you want to trim the sill, perhaps in the long run, it might be best to take it out, cut it on a table saw, and put it back. If it must be cut in place, try using a router and a guide board to limit the depth of cut.

Thanks for your quick response , I just got back from the job site and low and behold the tile guy working across the street stopped by and cut them, yeah.
Just to satisfy my curiosity, how did he do it?
He took a saw and free handed it as his helper vacuumed the dust . It looks great.just a lttle paint touch up is needed. And I can finish installing 9 more rooms in this 2 million dollar home.
Thanks for letting me know.
