Hi all ,I’m hoping to get a question answered. I’m installing a indoor shutter and I need to trim the corian sill 1″ straight across the front . I’m wondering if I could score it with a glass cutter and hit it with a chisel or nippers . It’s !/2″ thick. Anyone ever tried such a thing? Thanks for any advise. Susan

No way in he__ would that work...remove it and use a saw, or do it in place, if you have the right kind of saw....it will break, but i guarantee that unles syou score 9/10 ths of the way thru, it will not break where you want it to...
Would it not be easier to cut the wood shutter?

If the rail on the shutter is too small to cut, you must either saw or rout or abrade the corian, sure it'll snap, just not where ya want it to.
Are you certain it is corian? And not something like cultured marble?

Susan, I agree with Don. Why screw up your windowsill if you don't have to?
If you are intent on cutting it, here is some very basic info.

You fabricate corian very much like hardwood. Watch out for heating though 'cause it will melt.
Once cut, you'll need to polish the cut edge. Use successively finer grits of sandpaper until you reach into the 1200 grit range. If you want an even smoother polish, you can get even finer paper. If you really want to polish it, you can buff it and polish it with compounds made for that purpose.
Best of luck with it.

Wow thanks for the fast response . I'm not committed to do this part of the install , as i'm just installing my work which is drapes on these windows, But we were brainstorming and that was my hairbrained idea , I'm gonna shut my mouth and let the pros handle it. I just know it's gonna hold up my install to get someone in there , and I'd like to get paid, so I thought I'd get some good advise from you smart guys. thank you
