I have aluminum windows with a wood window stool. If I want to put casings around the window, but the horns of the stool are to small. My question is, are these stools easily taken out and replaced? Will I have problems with the drywall/plaster that form the window jambs? Thanks, Drussell

A lot of the times these stools were put in after the sheet rock went in. If so then you can try prying up on one and see what you get. Just take it easy, you'll be able to tell if its under the rock or it its just fit to it.
Try taking the apron off first, you can pry from the front and not worry about marring anything.

You might need to carefully cut the caulk before trying to remove the trim. And I agree that it is probably going to be easy to install a new stool.

Good point Ed, I sometimes gloss over the points that really need mentioning.
