Hi, I read about an article that is in the House Design Magazine in our local paper regarding all kinds of window treatments. I went to the web site to look at the article and subscribe, but found out that I can’t. Anyway, I am having the hardest time trying to figure out window treatments for my patio doors, (they are the sliding kind) along with 2 smaller width windows on each side of the doors. I don’t want vertical blinds ANYMORE. Please – any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I like the roman shade look.
Thanks! Marge

I'm pretty sure that there is a recent issue of Inspired House that talks about just this - window treatments for problem windows. However, the only article I was able to find was from last year:

I had patio doors (opening, not sliding) and put sheer curtains on them, with curtain rods top and bottom. Had some gathers in the curtains, and tied them at the middle with a sash.
But your sliding doors may interfere with the curtains, and your frames may not be wood. Oh well.
Frarge: I had these types of windows/doors in our first two apartments. The best solution was to make drapes that pulled to one side, following the action of the doors. If you have sidelights on either side of the doors, you could have center part drapes and treat the sidelights as part of the whole. I'm not so sure Roman shades would work, unless you were able to leave them up all day or not use the "door" portion for an entry.
One note of caution: measure the height at both sides and center. Our first apartment had uneven floors, and even though the drapes were even they looked crooked!
