Living in New England puts a bit of a damper on work in the winter time. Especially where we are now, deep winter. I always schedule a winter vacation to FLA or Caribbean and even one year a ski trip to Europe, but these are only one week hiatuses. Even though I always seem to stay busy with work it is not quite as hectic as spring, summer and fall. In the winter I like to try some different things. One of these winters I want to try to learn to play guitar. Last year it was yoga classes. The year before I learned to type. I can devote more time to the gym in the winter as well. This year I have tried something I have found to be terrifically fun and wanted to share with you all. Swing dance lessons. This has turned out to be an incredibly fun diversion. There are advantages to be found in every season. Making a little down time in the winter gives you the physical and mental refreshment for the new year (which officially starts for me when the clocks are turned ahead one hour in April). One other great advantage to living in the New England climate is getting out of the burning sun. I am happy to give my skin a break from the sun come winter time.

WW, my girlfriend and I have been talking about taking dance lessons for a long time. Swing, Salsa, or more realistically for me and my two left feet, just some basic lessons. Thanks for the reminder!
BTW, were you already a dancer? I've always thought I should be able to dance, I'm coordinated, good at sports, play a couple of instruments. Just can never get my feet to do what I want them to, or get comfortable on a dance floor. Would the lessons help with something like that?

Hi MM,
I never was a dancer, but after several lessons believe me anyone can do this. We may not all be Patrick Swayze but anyone can learn the basic steps. I found the Swing dancing to be terrific fun, good exercise, and a great way to meet new friends. I would encourage you to go for it, and the fact that you play a musical instrument should give you an advantage over people that can not. Unlike singing anyone can dance. After a couple of lessons your confidence will improve dramatically. WW
