Wiring in-line attic vent fans
I’m convinced that I should install an in-line vent fan in my attic. How do I wire two baths to operate this one fan. If it were just a three way switch someone in one bath could turn it off while it was in operation in the other bath.
Thanks for you thoughts

Do you already have the unit? It should come with wiring instructions. I have never wired one before, but I would imagine just catching the old bath fan switchleg would be all you need to do.
If you are using a switch separately from the light switch you just wire them in parallel.
It might be desirable to use a switch with indicator (pilot light) so show when it on. Note that this is different Lighted switch.
If you want to use a timer you can wire mechnnical timers in parallel.
If you want to use electronic timers then I think that they will work, but pick one and then check the instruction and/or the manufcature tech support.
If you want to have them on with the light(s) then use 2 pole switches. One pole is for the light. the 2nd is for the fan and again just paralleled.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
What Bill said. I just did this ... in line fan ... serves three rooms ... utility, 1/2 bath and full bath. I LOVE it ... used a Panasonic 250 CFM Wisper fan ... so quiet I hardly know it's on. It is controlled by 3 single switches ... any one turns it on. My older haouse had a similar setup ... except they used crank timers ... that way it doesn't get left on ... it always turns itself off ... which I may switch to a later point in my new house.
I did exactly what bill described about 6 months ago for someone. The backlit switches work well for this situation. As if the fan is on the backlight is off on both switches.
you got a legend to go w/ that wiring diagram? :) Thought I was looking at a sea creature for a second, there!
