Playing around with Wirsbo today and had a section of pex lose a fingernail’s width of the blue coating on the tube. Just the coating, not any scratching in what appears to be the tube body itself.
Anybody know if the coating is somehow integral to the strength of the tube, or just a coating to ease pulling it through joists?
I cut this piece out to be safe, but just wondering how durable it is in a scenario like this.

Don't really know the answer to your question, but can say that I have beat the living snorts out of various typs of pex for close to 20 years, and have yet to have a scrape from vigorous pulling cause a problem.
Thanks. Just curious how indestructible it is. Sounds like it's tougher than I might have imagined.'Man who say it cannot be done should not interrupt man doing it' ~ Chinese proverb

Call Uponor's tech support at 888-594-7726 and choose the option for plumbing. They are really helpful.
I'd also downloard and read their PDAM (Plumbing Design Assistance Manual). It contains a lot of information about how you can handle and install their products. I was only going to give it a cursory glance until I started reading important things I didn't know (like you can't install PEX where it will be exposed to fluorescent light without protecting it from the light).
Thanks. I downloaded the PDAM and it is full of good info. Very interesting about the fluorescent light.I'll give their number a call tomorrow, too and post the answer back here.'Man who say it cannot be done should not interrupt man doing it' ~ Chinese proverb

I dont have 20 years of experience with Pex but have beat the dickens out of it and had scrapes etc and knock wood, no issues.
