Planning to buy a wobble light, and am looking at the 175w Metal Halide or 250w Metal Halide.
Two Questions: 1) The cost difference works out to about $10 which causes me to lean towards the brighter model. Would the 250w be too bright in an average room? 2) Do the metal halide lamps throw off as much heat as halogen?
Thanks.

If not I imagine someone else will be along shortly
I have had the 500 watt halogen wobble light for 3 or 4 years now and really like it - that was the only one they were making at the time - don't have any personal experience with the others
Someone in the thread I linked to bought some of the Metal Haylide and should be able to give more info
You will like your wobble light,

I found that thread too. Looks like at least one person on here has the 175w Metal Halide Wobble light.
Home Depot has tower style flourescent model with two 42 watt flouresecent bulbs for $60. The package says that it throws off as much light as 300 watt. I have seen this light in action, and it doesn't seem bright enough to me. Although, at that price I could buy three of them for the price of a wobble light. Also, the damn tripod base on the Home Depot light must be three feet in diameter when spread. I like the the size of the wobble light at only 18" in diameter. Ah, Decisions, Decisions.

Bump for anyone who owns one of these lights.
What, pray tell, is a "wobble light"?
It is shapped like the Rockem - Sockem toys, hence the wobble name.

WE have the 175w Metal Halide and it is nice :-) We have two that we use if we have a lot of pickup or are inside in a larger area.
Thanks. Do the metal halide lights put off a lot of heat like halogen lights do?
Is the 175w bright enough for running trim, painting, etc in a 12x15 room?
I ordered one recently and it just came in yesterday. I will try to make a point to pick it up tomorrow. It's been so long i've forgotten which wattage I ordered. I'll let you know.

It doesn't put off much heat at all and the color of the light is very pleasant on the eyes.
Well, technically a regular halogen is "metal halide", but the units labeled "metal halide" are a sort of fluorecent bulb which puts out about 5 times the light of an incancescent (halogen or not) of equivalent wattage.
