I have read about the Wobble Light around here for a long time.
Tim Uhler was raving about his in a recent thread, and convinced me it would be worthwhile to have for working in a house we are renovating here in dark, dreary MN.
Tim uses the 175W Metal Halide unit, but the place that sells them nearest me only stocked the 400 watt MH unit. That seemed excessive, but I went ahead and bought it since it was about the same price I had seen for the 175W model online (about $200).
The last week here has been cloudy, and it gets dark about 4:30, and that light has been terrific — way better than the 500W halogens I have always used in the past. And I haven’t found the 400W to be too bright.
They sell halogen and florescent units too, but the bulbs are proprietary and have to be ordered directly from the manufacturer. Any metal halide bulb can be used in this model, and they are even sold by Home Depot.
highly recommended.

Website says 400W mh = 3100W halogen. Bet it really brightens up the place. I wonder how warm it gets. I have been burned by halogen, literally, plus the bulbs have a sometimes limited life.
Stays cool -- the bulb cover stays about luke warm. Unit has some sort of small fan in it (at least it sounds like a fan), which I assume is what keeps the thing cool.********************************************************

Mine came in the mail the other day, but I haven't needed to use it yet. Looks cool, glad to here it works well.
Stacy's mom has got it going on.
Congrats on a great purchase.
I bought my wobble light when they first came out - 4 or 5 years ago. Have been very happy with it. 500 watt halogen - only choice back then.
You are correct about the fan cooling. I believe the florescent and smallest halide have passive cooling and the rest have fans - last I checked.
You are also correct about the proprietary bulb on the Halogen. I have had to replace mine twice and looked all over the first time. If I remember correctly, they were about $25 each. Still far less than I would have spent on regular bulbs and lights over the years.
Congrats again,

Oh yeah, you mentioned buying it locally - who stocks them around here?
I found it at Trade Tools on Energy Park Drive (in St. Paul), between Midway Stadium and Raymond.Kind of a little "hole in the wall" place. They won't be giving 7 Corners a run for their money ......EDIT: I just saw that a new place (to the TC area) is also selling the Wobble; the 175 W metal halide is listed in their flyer for $190. Acme Tools in Plymouth (763-559-TOOL). They are an off shoot of Tool Crib, and apparently, they have other stores in ND and Duluth, but I am guessing they are new to the metro area. Catalog has all the usual wwing tools, but they also have a pretty good array of construction stuff.

Thanks for the response. Always good to know of another toy store in the area.
