I need some advice. I have a basement that is paneled with tongue and groove cedar paneling, about 1/2 inch thick. Someone had the bright idea of staining it a dark, dark, brown. The rooms look like dungeons! A while back, I remember reading in Fine Homebuilding about a new wood finish stripper that was less caustic and smelly than other strippers. I’ve been unable to find the article. Does anyone remember what the product name was? Has anyone had particularly good luck with one brand of stripper? Since it’s paneling, I would prefer a paste rather than a liquid although we will be replacing the carpeting when the wood is stripped back to lighter color. Any thoughts and feedback is appreciated.

One of the best strippers on the market you can purchase at most home centers is "Parks" pro stripper. But, I have only used this product outside in a well ventilated area. Works excellent! What are your thoughts about painting? You could use a form of liquid sand paper (easy to apply) then paint to your hearts content.

You might look at using Peelaway. They have several different forumalations. After you apply the stripper you cover it with a special paper. They after it dries you peel it off with the paint.
I think that the product that you are saw mentioned was Removall. Check the current TOH project house on their web site and check if that is the right brand name. They will also have the manfactures name.
