I have a cherry floor in the kitchen. i installed it about 5 years ago sealing it with a latex sealer. recently someone spilled some oil or greased ladened food in a spot that has been worn; leaving a hedious oil stain. Any ideas on how this can be removed?

I don't either, but If this was just a minor kitchen splatter and not a quart of olive oil that got knocked over, sanding and refinishing may be your best option. Sounds like it was about time for refinishing anyway. For oil spills in general, you need to apply something that is oleophilic to draw the oil out of the wood. Unfortunately, wood is also oleophilic, which is why penetrating oils penetrate. Or you could experiment with organic solvent washes in an effort to get the oil into solution and then try to wick it up with oil pads. Of course, this might also carry a shallow stain deeper into the wood. How about a throw rug? :>)
smother it with baking soda as long as you can stand it. It may draw some away, but I fear it is permanent.
They have "poultices" you apply to oil stains on granite counter tops--that may work (I haven't tried it). Maybe even kitty litter or the stuff janitors use to absorb oil on garage floors (Sorbs All?). Applying some heat, like from an iron over a cloth may help draw the oil into the absorbant material (like blotting paper even?). I haven't tried any of these, just giving you ideas.
Just an adea. I could try to suspend it with a solvent and then use a shop vav. You should use a non- flamable solvent though.
