I’m trying to figure out how the slab is sealed with products like Mapei who claim that their glue will both seal and attach the flooring products.
My question: if you test for moisture before the installation and determine that the slab is suitable, how do you verify that everything is working till after the flooring is all laid? What happens if the glue/sealer doesn’t do it’s job?

shameless bump.
I need some wood flooring guys to help me out here with some information about moisture control.
I'll bump ya one more time.
I dunno the answer to your question, Jim; I don't think I've ever laid a wood floor directly on a slab. Closest I've ever gone is to use those new osb 'tiles' with plastic bumps on the bottom to keep 'em ¼" up off the concrete.

we did the glue down wood on that RFH ranch
it was a Mannington floor & glue system..... i think it was about 1000 sf....about 9 months later we had 1 board pop... guy cut it out & reglued it
this is on a radiant slab.... i was impressed with the product

I spent 3 1/2 years down there in Austin and while there I was around for maybe 6 or 7 floors glued to the slab, didnt have any problems with any of them but as I said, I was only there for 3 1/2 years!
I dont know how you'd tell if you had a problem unless you actually had one, then I'd suppose you'd see it?!
Is this something that your planning on doing or subbing out? The sub would have to stand behind it, right?
I know this is no help but the bump is free.

We laid a floor. The sub didn't do stellar work. They brought in a certified flooring guy. He tests for moisture and says there slightly more moisture than is allowed. The floor was laid with Mapei, which supposedly seals the slab, which really wasn't damp anyways and is fairly new. I'd bet my last nickel that is has a moisture barrier under it. So, I'm trying to figure out how I'm supposed to smear this glue down, get the boards laid before it sets, and know that it's doing its job as a moisture barrier. Don't ask me....I don't have a clue. I might have to lift the entire floor and start over.
How new was the slab? and how low is the top of slab to grade?
Bruce
It's a somewhat new house. Maybe 8 years old.
Jim,
Bostik has a vapor barrier product that gets troweled on and then you use your Bostik adhesive for glueing the floor down after the vapor barrier is dry.
Best of luck,
Bruce
I'm going to do the Bostik thing in the future. The slab is actually elevated about 18' above grade. The house is well graded. I'm really baffled that there is a moisture problem but I haven't verified it for myself yet. It might be a ruse.
