I did a bamboo gluedown, but I didn't like working on the gypcrete surface trowelling the glue. The surface abrades pretty easily and the dust that generates makes spreading the glue harder. If you use sleepers, then you avoid the problem. Otherwise, float the floor to avoid it.
take a look at Junckers wood flooring has a clip system that can be used where nail down isn't feasible high-grade 7/8" solid wood, also engineered strip flooring clip system also allows product to be placed in below-grade installations, a bad idea w just regular strip flooring
