The western red cedar siding on the outside of my house needs to be re-stained. It was previously treated about 5 years ago with a Glidden stain. Here are my preferences for the product:
- Can be sprayed on
- Water clean-up if possible
- Low odor if possible
- Long lasting
- Sealing, water repelling
- Semi-transparent if possible
- Include fungicide to prevent mildew growth if possible
We live in the VA mountains if that’s a consideration. The house is quite tall and there’s a lot of siding so I’d rather spray than brush. I’ve had recommendations for a product for Sikkens but I understand it requires brushing on. I’ve also heard of, and seen, a product called Cecol(sp) or something like that. I’ve been unable to find out more about it because I apparently am not spelling it correctly. The application I saw looked great though.
Thanks if advance to responders!

The product your are looking for is SIKKENS made by Cetol Marine. I have friends that swear by the stuff, But I personally haven't used it

Sikkens is, IMHO the longest lasting, most beautiful semi transparent finish available. Just keep in mind that your wood will have a definite shine when you finish coating with Sikkens.
Remember though - one of the key factors for finish longevity is color. Go with the darkest color you can stand.
All finishes sprayed on wood should be "back-brushed." Spray it on and work it in with a cheap 4" brush.
Sikkens is definitely NOT low odor though and it requires mineral spirit for clean-up.
So far, I have not found a water clean-up product that will seriously last more than 2 - 3 years.
The "cecol" you are referring to is possibly "Cetol?" Cetol is a Sikkens product.
Sikkens is probably the most expensive finish you can buy. I think it's in the $360.00 per five range.
Also check out Penofin. It's an oil based product, solvent cleanup and not low odor.
I think that any product that you spray will need to be back brushed.
